<p>I just got home from my Small Learning Community’s annual Senior Awards Banquet.</p>
<p>This is always a huge deal…the Senior Banquet is very special. All the teachers, and a large portion of the students, come. They give out awards (both funny and serious) and scholarships.</p>
<p>I went, expecting not to get anything. I GOT:</p>
<p>-A certificate for being in my SLC all four years (everyone gets one of these who has been in for four years)
-A certificate and small pin for being the “Philosopher of the Year” (I did NOT expect this one…I don’t particularly care for Philosophy)
-A certificate and medallion for participating in our “International Negotiations Project” (we’re assigned a country and debate with other “countries” on different issues ((everyone who did this got one of these too)
-A medallion for my fourth year in the SLC (everyone gets one of these, too…we give out a lot of awards to everyone. XD)
-A certificate for having a 4.0 GPA first semester
-A $15 Cold Stone Creamery gift card as a door prize</p>
<p>ANDDDDD…the big kahuna!</p>
<p>A $300 scholarship from Boeing!!!</p>
<p>It was such an amazing night. 
Now all that’s really left is graduation!</p>

<p>It was such an amazing ceremony…they recognized a lot of kids that don’t get recognized very often, which I always love to see.</p>
<p>And it’s just so crazy to think back when we were all freshman and then look around and see how far we’ve all come. </p>
<p>It was also a VERY emotional night. I even had to pull over to the side of the road on the way home because I was crying and didn’t want to get in a wreck.</p>
<p>Yay, HGFM! It is absolutely wonderful that your SLC recognizes kids in all sorts of ways! (My D was totally thrilled to get an MVP Award in one of her advanced classes - just a piece of paper, but it made her day.)</p>
<p>Good job! And congrats on the scholarship! Now you can afford a nicer pair of rainboots ;)!</p>
<p>Congratulations HGFM - lots of lovely surprises for a deserving young lady! How nice that they recognized kids who are not often recognized.</p>

<p>Perhaps the best part was at the very end, when our Government/Economics teacher stood up and gave a very heartfelt speech. He is retiring at the end of this year after 30-some years of teaching. But it was especially nice when I looked around (through my own teary eyes) and saw that most of my CLASSMATES were in tears. </p>
<p>I had such an amazing HS experience, and these teachers have done so much for me. It was also very nice to stay after to talk to the teachers and have them talk to me as their friend rather than as their student. I will cherish memories of that night for the rest of my life.</p>
