What about college selection was non-negotiable for your child?

That was on the list. If she hadn’t gotten in ED to NYU, it would have been the top choice.

Wow, that sounds familiar!

As a student:

Non negotiables = urban/suburban (just not in the middle of nowhere), bigger than 1500 and less than 15 000 undergrads, top tier academics, not conservative, NOT a girls’ school, diverse, must offer japanese

negotiable = preferably not too cold, preferably no frats/sororities, preferably not in California (home state)

I almost forgot. Another non-negotiable for her was “no all women’s colleges.” :)

Well, for me, I wanted a real campus. (not like BU or NYU or even Rutgers)

And I think that I’m starting to realize that I would like a bigger community (10,000-25,000 students). My high school has 2,500+ kids, so I don’t want a school smaller than my high school. I want to see new faces around school.
I also ruled out most ‘commuter’ schools and all women’s colleges.

Non-negotiables:

Must be a tier one

Money must not cross $50,000 debt by end of grad.

That’s it.

I haven’t even applied to college yet lol, but here’s what I’m thinking:

Non-negotiables:

1) Nowhere cold
2) Must by Tier 1/upper Tier 2
3) Strong undergrad focus

Negotiable:

1) Preferably small enough that I won’t feel overwhelmed
2) Preferably has a real campus, and a pretty one, too
3) Preferably nowhere in the midwest. I want to get out of here!
4) Preferably has a debate team. I will go INSANE in college if there isn’t a debate team. =P
