@deb922 hope you’re going to one of the many great eateries in Leelanau!
You should see Alaska at least once. The mountains and glaciers are spectacular.
San Antonio , Portland Oregon and Alaska
Just three? That’s tough, and I’ve been many places mentioned here.
I’ll go with Mount Ranier when there’s wildflowers, Maine or Vermont in the fall, Alaska.
I need to check off the Painted Desert. We were an hour from there in the white mountains (AZ) this past summer and didn’t go. Also antelope canyon, Canyon de Chelly–so close but so far away. I’d like to see a sunrise over Monument Valley sometime too.
I do! Mainly the way it comes up for me is when I think about the “next time” I’m going to be someplace. I hate the concept of bucket lists; whenever I’m in a place I’m always thinking of the next time I will be there. THIS time I’ll go to the patisserie; NEXT time I will try the famous gelateria, etc. But lately – especially when I go to places that I like but don’t love – it has been hitting me that I will likely NEVER again go to the place I’m at again. That realization freaked me out a little bit because it is such a different way to experience a place. There’s something very melancholy about thinking that this is the LAST time I will be visiting a place (during my very first visit).
Cool, there are two new states?!?
Pacific NW, Sante Fe and Sedona
@MotherOfDragons Side effect of Brexit, I guess.
@nottelling …I get what you are saying completely.
Okay so I misread the title of the thread. Switch out the last two for the Great Lakes and the Gulf Coast.
I’m going to go AAA with Alaska, Aspen and Asheville.
3 was hard…I can add Charleston and Ashville and Las Vegas to my list. If I hit all 6 then I’ve been to places in all 50 states I want to go/see. I probably live somewhat close to you Deb922 I think.
YES! I feel like I’m running out of time. We are still in the “we have to work hard and save” phase of our lives, and I wonder how much time, quality of health, and $$$ there will be to travel in future years.
I’m so grateful for the camping trips we took when the kids were wee, but I’d love to go back to some of those special places again.
And, we don’t get into Chicago or Milwaukee enough. It’d be fun to play tourist in our own backyard.
Add me to the list of those feeling like they are running out of time - so many places I want to see both domestically and abroad. While we have tuition bills we’ve been somewhat cautious about not traveling too much, although we have the time to do so. I’ll feel more comfortable traveling and spending more in a few years once that is behind us.
My folks are 80 and although they still travel a little they are definitely slowing down. Their age and various ailments makes it difficult, especially for one of them and they don’t want to travel without the other. They prefer to stick close to home these days despite having the time and financial resources to travel if they could. With that in mind, I do know we should be traveling now or soon to take advantage of our relative youth.
I, too, feel lucky to have been to many of the places listed. Now if someone started a places around the world, I would have been almost nowhere.
I also feel the press of time. Still working with one in college, but am really feeling like we need to start spending a bit more of our savings on traveling while we still can. I see too many people 10 or so years older that just can’t do as much traveling any more. There are so many places i want to go that I have never been and so many I want to go back to!
My BIL is in his late 60s. His wife is the same age, and she has Alzheimer’s. They are not able to do the traveling they had planned and budgeted for.
Just to let you all know that the weather is fine here in NOLA right now. October is the driest month, and not crowded. ;
Taking reservations, @greenwitch? We can add you to the B&B list!
@greenwitch, D2 leaves tomorrow for a 4 day conference in NOLA.
@deb922 We’ll be close by this weekend, at Arcadia Bluffs. Hope the weather is good.
Add me as another who is running out of time/good health. I was just looking at a Rick Steve’s tour of Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. It looks fantastic, but I don’t think my arthritic knee can handle 8 miles of walking in one day. I need to choose trips based on what I can do now, knowing that my abilities are slowly diminishing.
