What are 3 places in the U.S. That you have never been to, but would like to go?

@abasket - H and I drove part of the Hwy 1 on the Ca coast today. Cambria to just below Big Sur. Beautiful scenery and loved watching the elephant seals play.
Now back on topic- I fell for the Go Michigan ads a few years past. I would love to do a road trip in that area.
Washington DC
Santa Fe

Hawaii, Key West, and Puerto Rico (that counts right?)

Yellowstone NP, Yosemite NP, San Francisco/Sonoma/Napa

This is a great thread. I’ve enjoyed reading all the responses so far. I’ve been to some of the cities/places, but mainly now want to make an actual list of places to see. Currently, I would love to visit Nashville, somewhere northeast (New Hampshire, Vermont, Connecticut maybe?) in the fall, and anywhere on the west coast. I’d also love to hike a little bit on the PNNST and the Appalachian Trail.

@liska21 the last time I was in the PNW was May 1979. Cold and rainy. Our windshield wipers broke. I’d like to go back though!

I think it’s interesting that everyone says “Maine coast.” There are some gorgeous inland areas, and they aren’t crowded! The area around Flagstaff Lake is breathtaking and very undeveloped. I don’t mind that it’s a secret - it keeps the crowds away from our cabin.

I want to go to Alaska (because DH lived there for four years and loved it) and Hawaii.

I think @MaineLonghorn and @HImom could open bed & breakfasts and make a killing just on CC clientele.

San Francisco
The Grand Canyon
New Orleans

Alaska, England, Australia.

@NoVADad99, kudos for the Boundary Waters mention – amazing place!

For me: New Orleans, coast of Maine, and through the Grand Canyon on a raft.

Alaska, Glacier NP, Canyon de Chelles (when we were at Zion, everyone told us how fabulous it is). No burning desire to go to Hawaii. Only other states I haven’t been to are ND and SD. Hurray for the Army brat life and two generations of camping trips!

Pacific Northwest. The south; New Orleans. Chicago. (Never spent much time there, but would like to.)

I have been to just about every place listed, was in Seattle last night and San Francisco this past weekend. I have been to 49 states and the only one missing is:

Alaska - I live near Seattle so no real excuse for never going, except I want it to be a week fishing one of the more remote areas. Nine more semesters of tuition.
Key West - I am a fan of island life, at least for a time.
Grand Targhee on a powder day, in Wyoming on the back side of the Tetons.

Crater Lake, the high Sierra, Asheville, NC. I have been many places, many regions of the country, but know little of the American south and find it fascinating.

Up thread there were many mentions of Sedona. Hmmm, B&B for CC folks? It is magical.

@MaineLonghorn - I’ve visited Maine several times…I agree lots of beautiful places. We used to stay at a place on Washington Pond (despite the name, it is quite large…apparently depth not area determines pond vs. lake).

Maine, Charleston, Austin. Crater Lake is nice, unless forest fires are severe. The smoke can be unbearable in August. But, the great thing about my home state of Oregon-there are so many amazing places to see that you won’t be disappointed.

@GertrudeMcFuzz …I love Vegas, going soon. I love the elegance of the hotels and the sounds of the slot machines, I’m like Pavlov’s dog. I only am willing to play a small amount each time though…but it lasts about 30 minutes and you get it back with free drinks. The shows, the gorgeous restaurants and bars! We love it, but I understand why others don’t. On the flip side, I have no desire to stay at scenic national forests more than a drive through…Clark Griseold style…yep yep, gorgeous, lets go. Ok…maybe one night, but you get the picture?

I’m writing a list, too…and am adding some of these places that have been mentioned. Writing down countries overseas, too. The older I get, I feel a bit more “paniced”, like I need to start doing these things while I’m young enough and healthy enough to do it. It’s not like I have 40 or 50 years ahead of me anymore, and if I want to TraveI, I need to plan for it to happen. Does anybody else feel like you are running out of time?

Haha @abasket I’m going to the Leelanau Peninsula today! One of the most beautiful places! Love it!

And everyone needs to go to New Orleans. At least once. One of the most interesting places I’ve ever been.

This is very hard to choose. Key West, Moab and Los Vegas (because I can combine it with the Grand Canyon, right?).

@conmama, it’s funny but I don’t feel like I’m running out of time. Maybe I’m just a homebody.

But my H and I had the most wonderful summer and stayed home. The weather was outstanding. We golfed 4-5, maybe 6 times a week. Went hiking and biking on great trails near home Enjoyed the great things we have here.

I hear Alaska is amazing and maybe we will go someday. But the problem is that Michigan summers are short and so are Alaska’s. I’m not really willing to give up a couple of great weeks here to go. I had neighbor’s who went last summer. They liked Alaska but felt they gave up a large chunk of summer at home.
