At schools like HYPS, what are the admit rates for people with a 2400?
Do they just have to prove that they aren’t just study freaks to get in? Or are they put up to the same EC standards as other candidates?

100,000%. 10char

In competitive schools, they’re just about good as chances for the 2200 range. SATs only measure one thing, and getting a perfect does not do much by itself. You will still need the ECs to push you over from “study freak” to “excellent student”.

what about valedictorian, captain of a sport, president and founder of a club (a good one too, not underwater basket weaving), community service, and great recs?

stop being insecure

sorry, i’m just freaking out
i know admissions are ridiculous, and i don’t have any big awards or TISP or not a recruited athlete

congratulations on earning a 2400!

thanks, so do you think i have a good chance at HYPS?

Err… is that so? Harvard accepted 75% of 2400s in 2006, according to an article by the New York Times. I don’t think 75% of 2200s were accepted by Harvard. In fact, 2200 is a rather mediocre score for a Harvard applicant without any nonacademic hooks. I’d believe it if you said that the % rates for 2350 and 2400 are similar at elites, but if you go lower than that, I think you will start to see differences in % admits.

I think the correct publication is New York Magazine, a very different publication, and this figure has not been confirmed. It’s plausible that students who happen to have scored 2400 on the SAT enjoy better admission chances than the overall group of students who apply to Harvard, but it’s also certain that not all 2400 scorers get in.

Yeah, I heard it’s at least over 50% percent admittance rate in any given year… Apply to all HYPS and chances are that you’ll get into at least one of them. Congrats on a 2400, I can’t even dream that score.

it was really wierd, i got a 2190 my first time in january 2007
took the act in feb., got a 33
got 2 800s and a 790 on SAT 2s in May
studied about 12 hours total, 2 full practice tests and some online questions
my goal was a 2250, so when i opened up the scores that morning i was pretty excited

It’s TASP*

No way, those rejected at one ivy even with perfect scores are probably rejected at all of them. Because those are probably people who slacked off academically and socially (ECs, heh couldn’t think of a better word). Just my take on it.

what’s underwater basket weaving?

the latest craze. What you don’t have an underwater basket weaving club at your school? You should totally start one.

“Underwater basket weaving” is a traditional joking name for a very easy course. I don’t know why weaving baskets underwater is so easy, because I have never tried basket-weaving, even above water.

The water would totally damage the basket material.

^HAHAHAH

Underwater basket weaving actually sounds difficult…how many times would you have to come up for air? Unless you wore scuba diving equipment and an air tank that is…

Some kid at my school got a 2400 and was rejected from a lot of the schools he applied to. This was because he didn’t do EC. Just be active in lots of activities and your golden.

BTW, I love underwater basketweaving! It’s my favorite EC!
