I was just curious. I saw that CMU has some high median SATS. However, this is for all departments. I am wondering what kind of SATs it takes to get into the School of Design?

I have not seen any statistics for the Design School by itself. However, the admissions rep who visited my son’s school gave us the following breakdown by college within CMU:

CFA: verbal 620, math 640, ACT composite 27

CIT: verbal 650, math 730, ACT 30
H&SS: verbal 650, math 680, ACT 29
IS: verbal 630, math 700, ACT 29
MCS: verbal 660, math 720, ACT 29
SCS: verbal 690, math 760, ACT 33
TSB: verbal 640, math 720, ACT 27

Students admitted into the College of Fine Arts do have significantly lower test scores (particularly for the SAT math) than students admitted into the other colleges. However, as you well know, academics (test scores, GPA, class rank) count for only 50% of the admissions decision for all CFA applicants except Architecture. Those auditions and art portfolios are critical for getting into CFA!
