<p>Are colleges doing anything at all to try to screen out professionally written college essays? With sites like craigslist and education4sale allowing people to brazenly request and offer for sale professionally written college essays, it seems like there is not even the slightest attempt at a crackdown at this fraudulent and unfair practice. Are they doing anything?</p>
<p>I would imagine that well written custom college essays would be hard to come by and very cost prohibitive. </p>

<p>Honestly, they can tell in most cases, even with custom essays. Few students not in the highest english/history classes and high CR and W SATs can write extremely well.</p>
<p>It’s often quite obvious is the essay is not written by the person/truthfully. It grates against every other part of the application, so for example an essay is brilliant even though there is no suggestion elsewhere in the app that the student is a good writer. Of course it’s impossible for colleges to actually verify that the essay was written by the student, but it’s easy to detect something artificial, something strange about the tone that is not quite concordant with the rest of the application.</p>
<p>skipjack - Are there any commonalities among your clients? Highly competitive suburbs? Insecurities about English fluency? Lazy?</p>
<p>does it matter? i mean they can easily tell what kind of person you are by a multitude of essays to complete, and if some of them are contrasting, they know something is up.</p>
