In the housing forms, they say that the bedrooms have beds, chairs, desks, and a couple of other things, but don’t mention the common rooms. Does anyone know if they provide anything?

they don’t mention the common rooms because they’re empty. well as long as the “other things” includes one small bookcase per person.

:D! bookcases! Does that mean I don’t have to ship mine?

It really varies from room to room; some rooms (I’m talking about rooms in general, and common rooms here) come with a lot of stuff, while others come with only the basics – a desk, a dresser, and a bed. It’s best to assume that your common room will come barren – most do – and get stuff once you’re there.

In order not to dash your hopes, some rooms have come with the following:

My room freshman year (111 1939 Hall) came with a full-size fridge, terrible 70’s wood paneling in the common room, and built-in shelving and cabinets in one of the common room walls. It also had a bathtub.

A room in Blair that belonged to a friend of mine from the HUM Sequence had only recently been converted from an RA room, so it came stocked with two comfortable sitting chairs (not the normal desk chairs), a coffee table, and two extra bookshelves, in addition to the normal stuff. The room was also enormous for a double – about 300 feet.

The suite I’m living in next year comes with a large table and a coffee table. A step down from the fridge, yes, but it’s a nicer suite overall.

I hope I only have bed/desk/chair/dresser. I’d rather bring my own stuff. How uncomfortable are the chairs? I guess we’re pretty stuck with them since we’re not allowed to remove furniture…maybe a chair mattress thingy will help?

not all rooms have bookcases- mine didnt last year and I was in a dorm (feinberg) that had new furniture. It all depends.

But the common rooms themselves are empty (and ours only had a single bulb light for a ~300-400sf common room)

bed = http://www.tupelomfg.com/images/static/beds.htm

your RA’s common room = http://tupelomfg.com/images/static/2400ggroup.htm

(This is roughly what most rooms have… Note that some dorms have older furniture.)

wow that bed looks like it would break if someone jumped on it… hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm… :D

Those beds are quite strong enough for most activities.

hahaha the implications of the above statement are staggering
