What are good backup schools to look at if I'm not accepted to NYU?

I’ve been looking alot at schools lately and NYU is my first choice. NYU is definately a reach for me, and if I don’t get in, I really want a great fall back school in NYC, preferably in Manhattan. I’ve been looking at the CCNY in CUNY, but I’m wondering how bad of a school is it compared to NYU. I know it’s obviously a step down, but how far down? And what other schools should I look at if I want to major in music production/management with psychology as a backup major?

Fordham maybe ( I think they have the lincoln Center campus?)? its only a step down.

on the other hand, school like Pace is way down IMO…

I don’t know any CUNYs, except Baruch…so…yea…

thanks i’ll check those out. It’s annoying because my stepbrother just got all of his acceptance letters a little while ago and he got in to every school he applied to including NYU(Tisch) Columbia Yale Princeton Cornell and Brown. and he chose brown. and now i’m starting to look at schools and I have pretty much no chance at any of them except maybe NYU.

You shouldn’t approach this process with that attitude. Be realistic, but don’t be a pessimist about it. College admissions is, on the whole, a complete crapshoot, and even those who seem to be a lock for certain schools can get rejected. Either way, you need to make the most of what you get.

As for NYC schools, you have an extremely wide range to choose from. You could always also apply to a school then transfer to NYU. Do a bit of research and find out what schools have robust departments for what you’re interested in so you can get a general idea of where such schools are located and the stats you’ll need for each one so you can develop a varied list of safety/match/reach schools.

Try Baruch, it’s way down but it’s in Manhattan and allows for easier recruitment to Wallstreet related firms. Also it’s a CUNY so in-state price is pretty cheap (Try for Macaulay Honors program)

fordham, pace

CUNY - city college, hunter, baruch

marymount, manhattan college(mc isn’t really in manhattan though.)

Are you only interested in schools in NYC?
If not, look into Northeastern or BU.

Fordham Lincoln Center Campus or apply to fordham Rose hill campus and then transfer after a year to the Lincoln Center Campus.

^ that’s silly. it’s not like LC is harder to get into than rose hill.

The other schools in NYC beside NYU, Columbia, Barnard, and Cooper Union are a huge step down in terms of academically competitiveness. But if you like the city that much, everyone’s pretty much named all the schools to go for in NYC which are pretty easy to get into. Oh and there’s also the New School.

I wouldn’t necessarily say that the other schools are easy to get into; depending on what program you apply to, some of these schools can also have very competitive admissions processes. The important thing is to figure out what you may want to do and then find schools that fit your long-term goals.
