Residence: Las Vegas, NV. I was born and raised in Los Angeles, so I really want to go back there. There’s nowhere else I’d rather be, I love it there.
GPA: 3.8, 4.6 weighted
SATs: 1740, yes i know thats weak, please dont tear me a new one Mr. 2350, lol.
SAT II: Taking Math2, US History on Dec 1. I expect around 650 on math since thats the only standardized test subject I do good on, and I expect to be owned by History :

Annual Family Income: $25,000. I’m basically gonna need to collect a bunch of scholarships, i dont even know at this point. I doubt I’ll get much federal aid.
Top 5% in class
ECs: I never did ECs in HS. I only did Mu Alpha Theta(math tutoring) in 9th and 10th grade. It’s unfortunate, I didnt have much time to do ECs, I had to be helping out at home with our tight financial situation and all. Oh well, sucks to be me I guess, not much I could do about this. I know this will basically kill all chances I have as OOS at a southern california school.</p>
<p>I’ve always dreamed of going to UCLA, but with my stats Im not gonna lie to myself, I know I have less than a 0 chance of getting in. So my question is, what schools do I have a shot at in the SoCal area, near Los Angeles? Could I even get into any UCs at all? I know I probably wont, but it’s at least worth a shot, it couldnt hurt to try. Should I consider going to a CC then transferring to a decent school? I really, REALLY, dont wanna waste 4 years of effort in high school by going to freakin UNLV :</p>
<p>I would think you have a shot at UCI/UCSB/UCD. Your UC GPA is gonna be higher than their averages for admits, but your SAT lower. UCSD and UCLA arent gonna happen because of your SAT, and UC Berkeley is obviously also extremely unlikely, even more so than UCSD and UCLA. But i think you will have a shot to get into atleast one of the mid tier UC’s (UCI/UCSB/UCD), although you never know. Best of luck!</p>
<p>Edit: if you are out of state, which i didnt catch right away, UCI/UCSB/UCD are gonna be slight reaches or so, mostly because of your SAT’s. get those up 60 or so points and UCI/UCSB/UCD will be a match-slight reach. Best of luck!</p>
<p>Reading your situation, you seem to have it very rough. And for UCLA, it’s a definite reach. Sorry to be brutally honest but looking from your credentials, it’s a big reach. However, there is HOPE! I know one girl who is also out of state and she had around 1900 SAT, one ec, and an 800 SAT II Math2c and she got in. Her mom said that because so few OOS kids apply there, the requirements are lower. (Yeah I know what you’re thinkin, it’s always harder OOS at public school) I’m sure if you tied in your financial situation and wrote great essays, there would be a shot for you too. I’m not altogether sure if being OOS can be easier (because of less applicants) but who knows? It’s always better to try cause you’ll never know what might happen? Try, have no regrets! <p>that really sucks dude…but you never know cause UCLA uses a more holistic approach than the other UCs so you might receive a nice care package in the mail in march for all you know :]. Just use your economic situation to your advantage is all I can say I guess. GOOD LUCK!!</p>
