What are my chances at Cornell?

I’m planning on applying ED to CAS at Cornell

SAT: 2110 Math: 780 CR: 630 W:700
ACT: 31

I know CR is really low but I’m gonna take SAT and ACT again.

GPA: 4.23
I took 3 AP’s junior year (Chem, physics 1, and US history) the rest were honors
All classes were A’s except for a B in history

5 AP’s next year (bio, Physics 2, calc BC, language and comp, and Spanish)

EC’s:
JV soccer (9)
Varsity track (indoor and outdoor): 9, 10, 11, 12 (captain for a season)
Varsity XC: 10, 11, 12
Relay for life team participant: 9, 10, 11, 12
RLF team captain: 10, 11, 12
RFL planning committee member: 11, 12
Community Service Club (10, 11, 12- President for 12)
NHS (11, 12) and HSP (10, 11, 12)
Spanish tutor (11)
Chem 2 team for NJ Science League (11) (planning. on doing again for bio in 12th grade)
Chemistry Club (11, 12)
Intro to Lab research class at JHU during summer (2015)
Student council VP for 11th grade

Janitor job during summer (2015)

Hoping to do show interest in chem and bio so I can do cancer work at Cornell. Twin brother had cancer when he was younger and I was interested in why I didn’t get it.

For AP scores I got 4 in chem, 4 in history, and 3 in physics.

Chem sat 2: 740
Math sat 2: 730

My Spanish and chem teachers are writing recs. also am getting one from American cancer society senior manager because of relay for life.

Your SAT II’s are low–you should consider retaking. As you know, your ACT/SAT are low as well.

How rigorous is your schedule compared to your school?

Assuming you can get the SAT up to 2200+ or ACT to 33+, you have a shot, although nothing makes you stand out (unless you can be an athletic recruit), so it’s a reach. Work on your essays, talk about your interest in chem/bio.

Schedule is pretty hard. Only 1 AP (comp sci) offered sophomore year but you need to take classes freshman year for that. Otherwise 3 APs is high for junior year (I only know two people that took 4) then same thing for 5 senior year

Don’t have a chance at athletic recruitment though.

I’ll definitely work on the SAT and ACT scores. Same for the SAT II’s. Thanks for the insight.

If you can raise you CR score to the 710-720 range I say you should have a decent shot. Good luck! Ithaca is a beautiful area!

Yeah visited there earlier it was beautiful thanks

Bump

If you increase your standerdized test (SAT/ACT/SAT 2) scores, it makes up for a low GPA and will considerably make your application a LOT stronger. You seem to have a lot of ec’s–be sure you don’t come across as tol varied:) Considering your essays and recs are above acerage, i would say Cornell ED would be a low reach for you.

I’m sorry to hear about your brother. <3

Chance me maybe?

EC isn’t spectacular. But it’s above average. GPA is good but your SAT/ACT should be 2200/32 respectively to look good. Talking about your brother in your essay is going to be really good.

I’d say 6/10ish on the reach scale. If you get your SAT/ACT to the ones I said above, it’ll be a solid 4/10 Reach

Honestly, you’re cookie-cutter for people going to those schools… number wise. The only thing killing you is ECs. They’re really spread out but nothing you can do. Show deep passion in your swimming.

Chance me back
