What are my chances at getting into UC Davis?

Ok so I am a junior in high school at the moment:
my gpa has been pretty consistent at 3.5 but I am shooting for a 3.7 this semester

of AP classes so far: 3

AP US history (attending)
AP biology (attending)
AP Chemistry score: 3

I plan on taking 5 AP courses next year.

SAT: 1636
ACT: 24 ( Math 25 W/R 22 Science 28)

Extra C.:

 • 3 years on the water polo/ swim team
 • 5 years in the Odyssey of the Mind program
 • 2 years of swim team coaching
 • 2 years of volunteer work with Special Olympics

I think I have a pretty good chance at it but you never know…

ehh… GPA is low comparing to the average GPA which is around 4.0
Are you ELC?

SAT: you should bring that up… you have an “average” score but not enough for UCD.
ACT: 25 is considered an average score, try to get a higher score next year in the Fall.

EC: Great EC’s but try to be more involved in like clubs? and VOLUNTEEEEERRR.

Yeah my standardized testing skills are quite awful. I am more of a hands-on type of person. However, colleges never see that which is bad thing in my case.
Also, I have heard that a 25 for ACT score is in the average for Davis as well as UCLA but I understand getting a higher score would be ideal.

The above averages are not correct.

The average ACT for admitted students to UC Davis for 2009 was 28

The average ACT for admitted students to UCLA for 2009 was 29.

tomato, is 3.5 your UC a-g weighted sophomore and junior year GPA, or is it your overall GPA including freshman year? You’ll want to use your UC GPA to compare to Davis’s stats for admitted students.

Tomato, your GPA and test scores are probably too low.

Just bump your scores up and your gpa up a bit and some volunteering. Youre a junior you still got time so dont trip so much.

Actually the volunteering part youre good lol. Just the score and grades up a bit. You can do that i bet!

Okay I retook the SAT

new score: 1750
my current wgpa is 3.8

last year (09) my D was denied with a 4.01 UC GPA and a 1250 (UCs only use CR and M + subject tests) 690 Bio and 570 USH She had a friend with a lower GPA and the same CR/M SAT total who is currently attending. I think the difference was that D applied in animal science and her friend applied in English. Anyway I share this not to discourage you but to advise you to avoid applying to the impacted and popular majors.

11 should be an easier year since there are fewer kids. Get a look at the UCD requirements and do your best to get as many bonus points as possible, take solids above and beyond the a-g reqs. Best of Luck!

My friend has a 3.19 UW GPA and he got into Davis this year(2010). 5 APs is a lot. Dont worry :]

My D also had 5 APs…This^^^ just reignited my bitterness^^^ Not really. She claims she wouldn’t have gone regardless but gosh it would have been nice to have been asked.
