Awaiting SAT II

My School has no honors courses, but I am dual enrolled at the University of Michigan

ECs:
Captain Track, Captain Cross Country, President of Service Learning, National Honor Society, Science Club
These are all the ECs my school had to offer me, sports and a few clubs…

But I am a first-gen college student, my high school has a grad-rate of 40%, only 10 people in my class took the ACT, and the ave. GPA is 1.89.

I am number 1 with a 4.0, and the next highest is a 3.72 (my best friend)

I have excellent recommendations, no disciplinary action, the most rigorous curriculum of my high school, a 4.00 average at the Univ. of Michigan as a dual enrollee (12 Credit hours there) and have well over 200 community service hours in the NHS and Service learning. My HS average ACT is a 16 and i am the only student in 4 years to take the SAT, and no other student has ever taken the SAT II at my HS. I have 4 Classes of Spanish.

Stats wise you’re not looking that great and I mean by Harvard standards. Obviously, you’re a gifted student), but you have some extremely compelling circumstances. I’d be sure to elaborate on these circumstances in great length in your essay and let your resilience shine through.

well…i did know a friend who was rank 1/660~ish, 4.0 unweighted, 2400 SATs (this especially got my attention), 800 Math IIC/800 US History/770 Chemistry, too many awards + recommendations from state governors and teachers, and an EC list that could take up 3 pages.

Point is…he got rejected and is now planning on headin to Cornell. This just shows the extreme standards that Harvard has.

though he told me all of this, the fact that he was able to get into cornell proves that he was either exactly or close to the truth. he was an assistant teacher for an institution that i used to attend.

Well there is the small problem that no one could have a 2400 on the SAT and have gotten into Cornell after getting rejected from Harvard yet, since this is the first year people have been applying with the new SATs ;)

huh? maybe i should clarify: he’s not IN cornell yet, but he got accepted after sending in an app between September and November and gettin a notice from them via online. same thing he did with harvard, and got rejected. he was notified in december, where he posted online regarding college status.

That’s why he was rejected from Harvard, then:

Harvard is SCEA. He screwed himself by applying to Cornell ED? That’s the only way Cornell will release a decision early (the Ivies have agreements about when to release admissions notices).

there is a diff between EA and SCEA. In Early Action you can apply to more than one school. In Single choice early action you can only apply to one school.

ok, i’m gonna go ask him tomorrow by headin over to the institution (located close to the best quiznos sub store anyways, my daily outing) for more clarification on what happened…and whether or not he indeed got rejected over a technicality.
