what are my chances at nyu, syracuse, usc, brown and duke?

<p>yeah, so i’m a low-income ghanian in nyc who attends a school located in the south bronx. my grades are decent i guess, but i’m hoping that my sat scores compensate for that.</p>

<p>trying to be as brief as possible here</p>

<p>gpa: 3.1
sat i: m: 650/w: 700/ r: 700
sat ii: english lit. - 750</p>

<p>my school only offers two AP classes (AP Calc AB and AP English Literature). however, we are able to take college classes for free at a local cc. from there, i’ve taken precalculus (a-), Psychology (a+), and philiosophy (a-). i’m currently getting prepared for the ap eng lit test.</p>

<p>extracurriculars</p>

<p>director of business for school newspaper (10th - present)
participant of drama club and host / actor in monologue shows (10th - present)
tutored and recruited students 2 - 3 times per week for 2 hours
piano- this is a little hobby i picked up independently during my freshman year, but nothing really notable here.
2st place team in nasa sposored robotics program. (10th)
won several 1st place team/speaking awards in policy debate (10th)
won 1st place in school monologue competition (11th)</p>

<p>really nothing outstanding, but i was just wondering.</p>

<p>if that 3.1 is actually a 4.1 typo, then syracuse,and nyu would be match, not too sure about brown and duke though.</p>

<p>no, no typo, hence why i said “decent”.</p>

<p>unfortunately, in a not so wonderful high school (i’m just assuming it’s not so wonderful, since it offers 2 aps), you’ll probably need a much higher GPA for brown and duke to be options. but you seem very involved, so if you get your GPA a little higher and maybe raise your math sat you’ll get into a good school.</p>

<p>GPA is low for all of these schools but SATs are pretty good (math could be better). It might balance out, but probably not for Brown or Duke.</p>
