I want to apply to tisch and do screenwriting.

I am a good writer so I’m confident my essays will be above average

What are my chances?

Oh also got 710 on us and 680 on math 1 subject sat

720 on us Jeez I’m a mess lol

If you’re going in for writing, you should increase your critical reading and writing scores. It may alarm admissions officers that your math scores are higher than the scores that relate to your desired major. Bump those up. Take tutoring if you have to.

Also, try to write your essays on stuff relating to screenwriting. For example, write about a writer who inspired you or write about your experiences with screenplays you’ve already written. Just make sure the writer is someone who wrote something that critics liked, not schlock. The admissions people will not respect you if you say, for example, that Tyler Perry inspired you.

Try and get a leadership position at your school’s newspaper club. They will want to see that your activities reflect your desired area of study.

You’re on the right track. I’d call Tisch writing a high match for you right now. You can easily bump that down to a match.

Will Tisch require a writing sample or a portfolio of your writing as part of the admissions process? If so, that will actually weigh pretty heavily in the admissions process. Yes, your writing score could be a bit higher, but writing samples, if required and/or permitted, will matter most. Your grades are very strong and your ECs look good- but I also feel you will want to be able to show that you’ve been committed to this area of interest. Have you been published Yet? Have you submitted things for publication? Do you have any writing credits with a playwright, etc; could you link up with someone in your local theatre community and collaborate on a play, etc; maybe you have some writing samples of dialogue you’ve written for your school’s drama program or for a composition class? Do you write theatre or literary reviews for the school paper or a local paper or blog? Lots of things can be used to demonstrate your passion and why you know this is the area for you.
