what are my chances at some good southern schools?

<p>I was just wondering, being a boston native, what my chances would be at a few of the following schools. My first choices are military academies but i do not know how much anyone can help me in that department.

  • West point
  • United States Air Force Academy
    -Southern Methodist
  • Texas Christian
  • Clemson
  • Emory
    -Georgetown
  • Vanderbilt
  • NC state
  • UNC- chapel hill
  • William and Mary
  • any other options you all think i may like. </p>

<p>heres my stats:
GPA- 3.3 UW, 3.8 W… havent heard exactly yet but possibly top ten percent… if not then definately top 15 at a fairly competitive school in a suburb of boston.

  • 4 AP classes and all honors… about as rigorious a courseload as my schedule could accomodate.
    SAT- 2080 700 CR 690M 690W
    ACT- 32</p>

<p>ECs

  • varsity tennis letter winner 4 years and captain 1… along with a few other individual tennis awards
  • varsity golf letter winner 3 years
  • varsity indoor track 4 years… 2 year letter winner
  • elected Class treasurer 2 years
  • National honor society member and treasurer
  • tutor son and daughter of fallen state trooper once a week for about a year
  • multiple service projects with a local elementary school including a a few endorsed by the American Heart association.
    -selected out of a highly competitive applicant pool to attend, and will attend the United States Air force academy Summer seminar.
  • Work part-time as a CVS pharmacy clerk for the past year.</p>

<p>Not sure about the military schools, but i think that Vanderbilt, Emory and Georgetown are slight reaches, Chapel hill is a high match, and the rest are matches. Good luck.</p>

<p>I don’t see a lot of leadership. Great community service, plus a job. Great sports and testscores. I think you have a decent shot at USAFA.</p>

<p>You have really good ECs, some leadership, a very good SAT, but kind of a low UW and W GPA for most of the schools you have listed. Also, I presume you are aware that you need a recommendation from a member of Congress to be accepted to a military academy? So contact your local Congressman and/or U.S. Senator if you are seriously interested in attending one of these.</p>

<p>I would also consider the University of Georgia, Auburn (they have a great flight training program), Norwich (in Massachusetts), University of Richmond (a slight reach), Embry-Riddle (Florida or Arizona campuses)–the best flight school besides the Air Force Academy, and maybe the College of Charleston. </p>

<p>My son’s best friend is at Embry-Riddle in Arizona and loves it. He’s flying every week and after his first year of college, he already took his parents up for a flight when he got home last week. He’s in the AFROTC at the school–and so gets a scholarship towards his costs in exchange for flying for the Air Force after graduation.</p>
