Carnegie Mellon CS is one of the most competitive programs to get in, with only a 6% admissions rate (I think they only take a couple 100 out of thousands). It’s insane, bordering admissions rates comparable to Stanford and MIT. You need killer SATs, SAT IIs, a good GPA and demonstrated interest in CS preferably. And if you rank CS second or third, chances are you won’t make it. Rank it first. Make sure your essays are amazing, and try to show interest by emailing the school.

Can you afford UCB? As an OOS student, you will pay at the minimum $23K + EFC and at maximum around $55K/year along with an 8% increase over the next few years. There are a few scholarships available, but do not count on getting much FA.

What are your gpa, SAT or ACT scores, and any ÀP scores that you’ve gotten so far?

How can you possibly assume others to chance you with even a grain of confidence if you can’t provide your test scores or GPA?

  1. You didnt include your gpa with you class rank. At my school a 3.96 puts you at 10/280, but at other schools a 3.5 puts you at class rank 10. What is your gpa?
  2. You did not include you act/sat scores. By this omission i assume you have not taken them. If that is true, no one can tell you.
  3. Do kids from your school usually get into top tier schools? The number 60 school in a state is not that impressive. Top 5-10 in a state is rather impressive.

Ohh… Idk how those got deleted. My GPA unweighted is a 3.95 and my GPA weighted is a 3.962. And I got a 31 on my ACT

I’m sorry guys. My GPA and test scores accidentally got deleted. I have an unweighted GPA of 3.95 and a weighted GPA of 3.962. I also got a 31 on the ACT (9 on writing). My bad. But I am in the top quartile.

Truthfully, as an OOS student, you’re not really competitive for Berkeley. That 31 ACT isn’t high enough for their incoming OOS students.

Also every year we have at least one person go to Ivy Leagues. But we always have several who are accepted.

Can you afford the $55k per year. There is no financial aid for OOS students.

Probably not. It is really just another option if I don’t get into UT CS

Just from looking at your stats, washU seems somewhat out of reach unless you have an amazing hook. I have a friend who got into to or was waitlisted at every school he applied to besides WashU which he applied ED(he got into brown and colombia, waitlisted at harvard and cornell)
