What are my chances at UNC Chapel Hill?

<p>Senior and Out-of-State, Female
Overall GPA: 4.07
SATS: Verbal 580, Math 710, Writing 680</p>

<p>AP’s-US History (2), Biology (4), taking 5 more now.
Activites - Editor in Chief of newspaper, co-Pres. of Key Club, Lead Critic of theater critics group, gymnastics for 7 years, national/math/french honor society (VP in french), treasurer of animal welfare club, random writing awards.</p>

<p>Volunteering- Tutoring at homeless shelter for one year, city youth service coalition, key club activities.</p>

<p>1st choice- UNC-CH
2nd choice- UVA</p>

<p>Verbal score will probably take her out of contention. I’m assuming GPA is weighted? What is unweighted GPA? OOS admission into UNC is very competitive.</p>

<p>Agree with apmom. My neighbor’s D has basicaly the same SAT with higher gpa, lots of good ec’s and is in-state and she got deferred by UNC-CH last month.</p>

<p>That also makes UVA iffy. The verbal is below the 25% and the GPA is right on the average. With a 38% admit rate it will be tough to get in.</p>

<p>Don’t waste your application fee. UNC chooses high SAT scores rather than achievement because they need the scores to prop up their US News rankings. You won’t do better at UVA -even though they are not nearly as scores driven. Sorry.</p>
