I am an international student applying for the Fall 2013 session for Computer Science. My school follows the Cambridge GCE syllabus, which means I sat for my O’Level and A’Level exams.

GPA : 3.33 (4 A’s and 3 B’s in my O’Levels and 2 B’s and 1 C in my AS’Level)
SAT : CR-580, M-590, W-610
Honors : Highest Grade in Computer Studies
Jobs : Interned at an advertising agency during the summer of 2012

I haven’t done much community service, but I play the guitar and play eSports competitively (my team is the best in the country), though I have no way of showing these as my EC’s as I don’t have any certificates.

So what would be my chances at getting into USF?

Your grades and test scores should get you into USF. Budget at least $30,000 each academic year for two semesters attendance at USF as an undergraduate student.

I’d figure closer to the $30,000. Off campus housing means you will likely have to commit to a full one year written contract/lease for an apartment and it is near impossible getting a student apartment for less than $500/month—$6,000/year. Food will cost you at least $200/month if you buy your own groceries and prepare your meals yourself–$2,400/year. Airplane fare from home will cost you a lot and too you will need some extra cash during year for basics like buying maybe some clothes and things like toothbrushes, etc. $25,000/year probably won’t be enough, and keep in mind you probably can’t count on being allowed to work here outside school to earn extra money to pay for your college expenses.

Contact USF’s International Students Service Office to get a better handle on how much money you’ll need. Good Luck!

Probably save a little bit of money living off campus. Leasing a private off campus student apartment usually means having to pay rent for a full year–on campus housing for just two semesters would equal about the same amount of money as 12 months off campus. Living off campus has advantages and disadvantages–living on campus can mean less hassles having to deal with a possible bad off campus landlord. Too being on campus is usually more convenient allowing you to walk to everything on campus and not have to deal with getting your own car or commuting on bus. There are some private apartment complexes within walking distance of USF campus. Freshmen are required to live on campus in dorms unless their families live in Tampa area allowing them to commute. About 82% of USF freshmen live on campus in dorms.

You can’t get by on $4000/year for housing and board though…that figure is way low and unrealistic unless you eat nothing but rice and water and live in a tent.
