So based on the fact that you have asked this question on June 26, 2016, I’m assuming you are an incoming Senior?
I’m currently a senior at Vanderbilt. I’ll be completely honest with you about your chances. The fact that you are in the top 10% of your high school class is a good thing, but top 5% would be significantly better. But more than that, I think you should try to retake the ACT this summer, or in the 1st semester of your Senior year. It’s crazy, I know, but a 33 is a little on the low end for a lot of top universities like Vandy. If you can bump that up to a 34 or 35, I think you’re a pretty good candidate, especially with all of your extracurriculars.
Your chances also depend on the reputation of your high school with regards to Vandy. Do you know how many students apply/get accepted from your high school?
@jose488 lol I mean Vanderbilt. For future chance responders, disregard the text that says nyu. That was from my previous question. I want to be chanced for Vanderbilt.
@jose488. Since you are a vandy student, I would like a direct judgement of my chances for Vanderbilt. Chance me from the range of: No chance; slim chance; average chance; good chance; great chance. My school has a decent reputation for sending students to top schools as we have gotten over a million dollars in scholarships from schools like Berkeley.
So I think you’re in the average chance bracket. The ACT is a little bit low, if you added a point or two you would be more competitive. In addition, the class rank is good, but top 5% would definitely improve your chances. The ECs are also really good. If your school is as good as you say it is, then that will definitely help, but only if you performed well relative to your peers.
@jose488 Update. I have just completed an internship with a Vanderbilt Graduate School grad. He runs his own law firm and has amassed a fortune. He is of course an alumni and I will include that in my common application. Also, he wrote me a letter of recommendation, giving the soon to be admissions directors an in-depth analysis of how good of a worker I am. He also gave them a good personal analysis of me. Will this rec from a vanderbilt grad help? Thanks.
