What are my chances at YHP? Ivies? Anything?

<p>I have no clue where Im headed… I goto York Prep, Ok school in NYC… Im a sophomore and many other kids in my school have started getting accepted to GREAT schools one kid to harvard and another to columbia (keep in mind, classes are small). </p>

<p>PSAT: I did crappy, but i never really took a standardized test, i got a few SAT Books and plan to take a course during the summer</p>

<p>APs: Micro Econ (this year)
Stats 11th grade
AP American hist 11th grade</p>

<p>SATII: World History (this year)
Math I 11th early
Writing 11th early
And probably a sci late</p>

<p>GPA: My school does numbers. Fresh year it was a 94. This year its a 97… Ill get it upto a 98-99. Id say Im ranked 2nd… there is one higher girl, but she does no ECs, APs (not offered in our school), or Sat II</p>

<p>ECs:</p>

<p>Environmental Club
Student Govt.
School Newspaper
Laboratory Assistant
Spanish Tutor
Scholars Program (few selected top students, extra courses)</p>

<p>Will do Yearbook Committee </p>

<p>I should have atleast 250 hours of CS… aiming for 400 though</p>

<p>I’m a great essay writer, so that shouldn’t be too bad… </p>

<p>I did have one B+ last year and i think i had one A- this year… </p>

<p>Any more info, any advice, anything would be nice. Take no account in my typing on a forum… Its just quick stuff.</p>

Other top schools, make recommendations too… Percentages would be nice… AND PLEASE ADVISE me what to do.</p>

<p>I think that your list is a bit top-heavy. Don’t you have any match schools?</p>

<p>In order to improve your chances of admission, try to take some APs through self-study (only if you’re up to it, of course)</p>

<p>The only thing I don’t see here is the nickname generator. When college admissions officers look at your application, they should be able to form a name out of your passion, like “Dostoevsky Girl” or “Dicer Enzyme Guy”. There’s nothing in your app that screams passion, so maybe have a good sit-down and figure out what your passion is and try to pursue it so that you seem genuine to colleges. Preferably before next year, of course!</p>

<p>yeah, not trying to sound rude or anything, but you’re obviously not in a very competitive school with an average of 95 for rank 2, plus, when you don’t show us SAT scores, its impossible to judge on IVIES.</p>

<p>HYPS will require you to be different/unique from everyone else. Go join more clubs and activities</p>

<p>But Id say computers are my passion… Programming, repair and web design. Is that valid? Do you think i should take a instrument that I enjoy, but not necessarily excel at? Should I do something that I enjoy but suck at but makes me, me!!!</p>

<p>And should I write down what APs ill be taking senior year? And im not sure, but i think my school does prepare me for AP english. The thing is, i dont want to have to take three aps in a day</p>

<p>Yes, definitely show colleges that you plan to pursue AP courses in senior year.</p>

<p>As for your passion, lots of colleges LOVE LOVE LOVE comp sci majors, so if you want to major in comp sci, this is a big leg up, IMHO.</p>

<p>But you really have to convey that passion through either your essays or your extracurriculars (preferably this). Maybe start a computer club at your school or enter programming contests. The world is full of possibilities. Just make sure it shows up!</p>

<p>I can really identify with your school situation. My school is new, so we don’t have many activities, but I took the initiative to start a few clubs. Have you got any leadership experience? This will probably help you out too.</p>

<p>Finally, NOBODY wants to take 3 AP’s a day, but most of us take 4 or more. We just grin and bear it because we know that we will be rewarded for all the hard work later (most of us, anyway :)).</p>

start a web design business online. maybe your mother or father knows people that might want clients? go to local businesses that you know don’t have websites and offer to make one. At first make a couple for free, then advertise and start charging. Take comp sci courses at a summer program or comm college. Start a computer club. write programs during your free time. Incorporate all of this into your essays.</p>
