What are my Chances for a bright future?

Hi forum, my name is Andrew and I’m in desperate need of some opinions and answers from those that know best. Basically, I’m a senior this coming year and I know that I have really messed up these past 2 years in HS. I’ve attended a private catholic HS in the Bay Area of California for 3 years now. All classes have been college level if that helps. I’m just going to cover basic things like GPA and EC and hopefully someone can help me discern if I have a future in college!

2 AP classes total
Freshman year GPA = 3.15.
Sophomore year GPA = 3.30
Junior year GPA = 3.0.
I’m aiming for a 4.0 my first semester of Senior year, however I don’t feel so confident that it will help, but I know I can pull it off. But my career GPA is about a 3.15

My SAT score was a 1700 and I have improved since I took the test, so I am hoping when I take it again this fall that I get around a 2000 or above.
My projected ACT score is about a 29-30 composite.

My extracurriculars are pretty good and I haven’t dabbled in too many different things so its not a mess of confusion. I have trained as a competition dancer for 5 years, as in I have received training from many different studios in the Bay Area and have won many awards for my performances. However, I am also a teacher of hip-hop at one of my studios and continue to take classes, and started my own successful crew and am the current moderator. I dance about 15+ hours a week and is the only hobby/EC I have done all through high school so far. My freshman year I started a Dance Club/Team at school and have kept it going since.
A separate EC is that I have started my own organization/“College Project” that is dedicated to the research and education of Celiac Disease, which I have. Although not much has been done with it, I am working feverishly this summer to get as much publicity as possible for my cause. This disease has caused a lot of trouble for me especially in HS and maintaining good grades since there were complications with it once I was diagnosed. I have much support for this project and I expect it to take off this summer with all the work I am putting into it.

Now that I have gotten all of that out of the way, the reason I am scared for college is because I don’t feel I will get into a “good” university. I am very interested in Criminology and Psychology, so I was thinking a college along those lines like UC Irvine or American University Washington. “CSU like” and community schools are out of the question, I will never attend one because my parents will only support me if I attend a private school or university.

So is there a chance that I could get accepted into any of the colleges along these lines with the stuff I have listed above? All and any help/opinions are welcome, Thank you!

Okay, first of all, you are saying that you WILL do a lot of things (get a 4.0, get your SAT up, and do stuff with your cause) …but its not as easy as it seems, it will be verryy difficult to do all of that…i honestly think it would be better to do a Post Graduate year at a private boarding school…you should be able to get your grades up there and show colleges that you are capable…I mean if you think you can do all of the things you listed, then go for it, but it will be hard… Maybe if you have a good interview and write good essays then youll have a chance at those schools…but also the competition dance thing is unique and colleges might like that. Good luck

I agree with kelsey11. It takes a lot of work to have that drastic of change in such of short amount of time (which also implies that in the past you have lacked the work ethic, dedication and/or motivation to achieve such goals). That being said I agree it is slightly unrealistic (it may happen, but it probably won’t).

American is a major reach (it is a match for me and I have a 3.85), so is Irvine. You lack community service and have minimal leadership. If you are intent on going to a prestigious school you will probably have to transfer from a different college. I suggest you begin looking for schools that are realistic with your current stats.

Feel free to PM if you have any questions.

From now on, it is imperative that you work really hard. You need to set your priorities straight and focus on the goals you set for yourself if you want to get accepted at a private school.

Definitely bring up that SAT score. If you get it high enough, it may distract from your low GPA. Also, remember to explain your situation well in your essay and interview.
With that in mind, I recommend you try to look for safety schools as well. Make sure the statistics of the applicants applying are within your range.

Go PG at Exeter or Deerfield or something of that nature
