I’m planning to apply to Duke Early Decision. Would that affect my chances of getting financial aid? How is the financial aid at Duke? My family falls into the $120,000-140,000 income bracket

mine does too. we got ~35000 in grants.

i would say that gpa is a LITTLEEEEEE on the low side. but the magazine sounds good. i would say low, low, loww reach (as are most top schools anyway…). but you have a better shot than most, i’d say :)

fin aid varies among people, but you seem like a strong candidate so apply ED (ED does, furthermore, boost your admission percent)

Wow, your ECs look great, though if you can explain a low GPA it shouldn’t be a problem.

SATs seem fine as long as you improve CR which shouldn’t take too much beyond a few practice tests before the test.

First off, great job placing at Glenbrooks. I would say that you have a 99.99 percent chance of admissions. Good Luck.

with your SAT2 and GPA, ED chance is better than RD.

apply to stanford.

Your unweighted gpa, while not nearly perfect, isn’t all that low. Your EC’s are rather substantive…I think you’ve got a good shot.

As for your financial aid question: If you’re planning on applying for need-based aid, be careful with Early Decision. Unless you can “prove” to them that you can’t afford their calculated family contribution, you’re stuck with whatever financial aid packet you get, and you have to pay it if accepted. I’m not sure if they give any less aid to ED’ers. They use a systematic formula to calculate EFC/aid, so I don’t think they do. But still, if you think money could be a problem, I’d advise against ED anywhere (unless it’s non-binding “Early Action”).
