What are my chances for grandkids ?

By the time I was the age of my oldest, she was five years old!
She isn’t married- but she & her BF recently moved into a new place together.
His parents ( although they live on the other side of the country) also reportedly love her & have paid for them both to come visit yearly for the past couple years ( they are both in grad school). An important detail to me, since my inlaws never have liked me even though we have been married for 30 years.
I can wait for grandkids- I get my baby fix from the kids in the neighborhood.
I am likely to get a dog instead.

**L O L!! **

That’s almost like the old, Did your parents have any children?

That comment should be posted on CC’s greatest 1 liners ! New Thread

Lololu - I have a hunch that many of us who yearn for grandkids already spend significant time with little ones.

I don’t think any of us are unduly sad or are moping - we just can’t help but wonder when (or if) it will happen.

Anyone worried about our atrophying birth rate? It’s pretty dismal. Our kids are not finding mates and not having babies and it worries me a ton.

Honestly, trophy college admissions, grad school programs, jobs . . . none of that matters a bit to me in comparison with my kids finding someone to love and who will love them back.

A ray of hope with the older one. The lovely, lovely girl from his past who he just didn’t reciprocate feelings for is back in his life. I have to put myself on lockdown and not start fantasizing about a MOG dress.

Be careful what you wish for. Everyone saw the thread fauxmaven started today, right?

Wow, that was very strange. I came back to this thread to write a comment that was to start with,

… and there is was. How strange is that? Well, my “be careful what you wish for” is that my mother is currently on tour visiting her six grandchildren, living in Charlotte NC, Washington D.C. (recently back from Indonesia), Boston, Chicago, Madison (recently back from Japan) and Los Angeles.

Do many of you have grandchildren spread out all over the place?

My grandmother had 30 grandchildren living in CA, IL, TX, MI, OH, and NJ. Everyone visited her.

I posted the same point back at post #21.

Childrearing is a huge responsibility, and I can’t even begin to fathom what our kids will have to shell out over the years to educate our grandchildren. I do know that full-time center-based daycare for a toddler runs around $1500/month, meaning parents need a pretty good income.

Kids who arrive ahead of schedule can bring an infinite amount of joy with them, but it can wreak havoc on the lives and the plans of their parents.

Curse you, Recession. I know my kids and their married friends are all postponing families because of you.

My kids are not currently dating and neither they nor we are in a rush for them to get into a committed relationship and being a family. We are happy they are finding their paths and loving life and school. We know that they will take their time with their relationships and are happy by themselves and the many friendships they have now. We have lots of nieces & nephews (their cousins) to keep us happy. Someday, I’m sure I will be a great aunt–probably before we become grandparents and that’s fine with me.

I think there’s a lot of good that comes from waiting until you feel pretty happy and settled before adding more people to this world. H & I were older when we met and married and have absolutely NO regrets all these years later. All my sibs tended to meet and marry later in life as well, after we finish school, start our professions, are comfortable in our own skin. So far (knock wood), we are all still married to our original spouses, so that makes life less complicated.

fauxmaven, how do you feel about pony rides? Any experience? Any preferences regarding ponies? Are there (will there be?) rideable ponies available to your possible grandchildren?
