What are my chances for Mechanical Engineering programs? (UIUC, ISU, CPSLO, etc.)

I am 99.9999% positive I am going to study mechanical engineering at college. Particularly, I am very interesting in going into the automotive industry. I’m absolutely in love with cars. All cars. Big, small, slow, fast, eco-friendly, and pretty much any car you can think of, I have a spot for it in my heart.

Where I am applying - University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Iowa State University, Cal Poly at SLO (Clemson? Alabama?)

ACT - 31
SAT reading + math - 1380
unweighted GPA - 3.42

schedule
8 semesters english
8 semesters math
8 semesters Spanish
4 semesters Latin
8 semesters History
12 semesters Science
14 semesters visual/performing arts
1 semester speech
1 semester health

All of my classes are honors and I have 7 APs - Music Theory, American History, European History, Chemistry, Biology, Physics I, Calculus AB
My GPA is kind of low but my senior workload is pretty good, I’m taking 8 classes including 3 APs and first quarter I got 7 As and 1 B+.

What I want to know is, what are my chances at these three schools, and are there any other schools that you would recommend I apply to?

You have competitive test scores but your GPA will hold you back with Cal Poly SLO. Average CSU GPA (weighted by Cal Poly calculation) was a 4.06. Are you in-state California? If not, you will receive no financial aid at SLO and it will cost your around $30-35K/ year tp attend.
Not familar with the other 2 schools. Home State?

SLO: Low Reach

I would say high match to low reach for UIUC MechE. If you could bring the ACT up a tad to 33+, that would be even better.

I am from Illinois, but I’m also considering applying to University of Alabama and Clemson because they both have some pretty good automotive engineering programs.

For UIUC engineering, the admission average GPA is 3,9 and mid 50 ACT is 31-34. It is likely a low reach for you even from in state.
