I am a white male New Jersey resident and I am interested in Northeastern. They came for a visit to my school and I am interested in their co-op oppurtunities. I plan on majoring in business, specifically finance/accounting.

I have been a basketball referee since 9th grade and have refereed many games each year. (I have an essay written on this topic but would need to scal it down from about 3100 characters to 200 characters)

I was also a camp counselor the past 2 summers.

My GPA is a 3.71 (An A is a 4.3, not 4.0)
My rank is 99/445 (Top 25%)

Given your SATs, I’d say this might be a bit of a reach for you since your scores without writing are well below the middle 50% of this year’s freshman class. Your GPA/class rank and SAT writing score (I assume they will be considered writing this year?) will increase your chances slightly and they do give more importance to GPA than SAT scores. If you are really interested I would definitely think about applying early action since that may help show serious interest.

Agree with scansmom…reach unless you can pull up your SAT scores…but apply EA and go visit, etc. to show interest…also interview on campus or with alumni…my son did this by phone…

Hmm. We are on the West Coast and went for a campus visit summer between his junior and senior years. If I remember right, we got some information that had a list of representatives/alumni by geographic area. Then he got an email from the woman who handles our area. She set up a phone interview with him. He was told ahead of time that the interview was not “evaluative” but was “informative”. In other words, it was so that he could ask questions about the school, etc. I’m not sure but one guess I have is that they did this because they have been trying to recruit from regions other than New England.

I went back to the website, which has been changed recently and found what I was looking for!

This is the link with the name of the rep for each state/area. If you email the person with specific questions about Northeastern it shows some interest on your part. One thing though, try to come up with legit questions, not stuff that can be found on the website.
Anyway, the list I mentioned in the above post is on the web at the link in this post.
Truthfully, my son may have emailed her first. Now that I think about it there was an information night but it was four hours from us and so he emailed her instead, began a series of email exchanges which led to phone conversation/“interview”. And all this was even though he had stats way above their profile stats. Love thy safety!

Hmmm interesting… cool… I always have lots of questions to ask so I’ll probably send the rep an email right away… It is technically my safety school so I guess I’d want to ensure that I get in…

retake them
and try ACT
I personally think ACT is much easier
Math is a bit harder though
but the reading is more straight forward, while the sat reading is about comprehension, and vocabulary…and analysis

Ok, I attended my freshman year at Boston University and was academically dismissed. I took a total of 34 credits (fall+spring) and had attained a 1.59 GPA. The required GPA to continue my sophomore year, I needed a minimum 1.8 GPA. I took 16 credits over the summer at BU in order to reach that GPA. However, I only raised it up to a 1.65 which was insufficient.

I am currently enrolled at Bergen Comm. College in New Jersey taking 12 credits. I plan to apply for admission in the Fall 2007.

I am a Business Administration major. I looked at the preferred courses that Northeastern looks for. They give credit for classes that you have attained a C or above in. This allows me to gain credit for some of the classes that I took at BU. Also I will gain transfer credit for one of the classes I am currently taking at Bergen Comm. College.

MTHU131-Calculus for Business/Econ

ECNU116-Principles of Microeconomics

ECNU115-Principles of Macroeconomics

INTU465-Topics in Interdisc Studies

ENGU111-College Writing

ACCU201-Financial Accounting & Reporting

The list above is what I can get credit for so far. In the spring, I plan to take an additional 15 credits at Bergen Comm. College which are all transferable to Northeastern. This will give me credits for the following courses:

ACCU301-Managerial Accounting

PHYU111-Astronomy

PSYU101-Foundations of Psychology

CBAU101-Introduction to Business

PHLU110-Introduction to Religion

This will allow me to transfer 11 courses (44 credits). I will have met all of the preferred requisites for Business Administration majors that wish to transfer into Northeastern.

This is a brief rundown of my statistics:
H.S. GPA: 3.4
SAT I Math: 660
SAT I Verbal: 580
Combined: 1240
SAT II Writing: 620
SAT II Math IC: 600
BostonU GPA: 1.65

Estimated GPA this fall at Bergen Comm. College: 3.25
Estimated GPA in the spring at Bergen Comm. College: 3.40

Northeastern’s approximate average transfer student acceptance rate is 50%.
Northeastern’s avg. GPA for accepted transfer students is a 3.21 GPA.
Northeastern’s avg. SAT score for accepted transfer students is a 1170-1310.

I plan to apply for Fall 2007. Can I please have some feedback on my chances at acceptance? I am scared that my academic dismissal from BU will make me lose hope.

to be eligible for admission you need to be in good standing with all instutions from which you received college credit.

sorry

ps. that 3.21 GPA transfer stat is a misnomer…they’re talking about cumulative GPA… i stress CUMULATIVE… which means they would average out all of your GPA’s from each instution you’ve been to. your gpa is probably a high 1 or low 2.0…

my advice… stick it out at community college and finish your associates with a good gpa (strive for 3.8 or 3.9)…then see what your overall cumulative gpa is and decide which schools might match that

fyi…i’m not trying to be the one to break the bad news, just informing… im not making this stuff up… i’m doing a work study for the undergrad admissions office so i know quite a bit of what goes on behind the scenes here
