What are my chances for Penn State- UP and does applying late reduce my chances?

Hi . I am from India. I applied to Smeal school of business around 23rd Jan . I scored 1770 in SAT . And I have got pretty good ECs. My grades have been pretty great throughout my high school ( 9th grade to 12th grade) .

@parneel The priority deadline for international students is feb 1. So as long as you apply before that you are fine. I am

from India as well and my sat is 1790. Ill be honest our scores are a bit low for Smeal. You have a good chance for summer. Did you tick the optional summer start in the application???

Applying late will very much hurt your chances

If you are an International student, your priority deadline is February 1st (as opposed to November 30 for domestic applicants) So you didn’t apply late at all.

@ind1900‌ well, I know. But from what I have seen from the acceptances, a lot of guys are accepted with 1700s too! and I didnt select optional summer start. Doess it hurt my chances?

Also , is this application system same for international students? ( 2/3rd for grades and 1/3rd for SAT) ?

@ParNeel Not selecting summer as an option limits your admission options. If you are qualified for Fall start then it won’t matter, but if you are denied for fall and had put summer as an option, then they would re-evaluate you for summer start…which has slightly lower admission statistics than fall admits. Same if you put an alternate starting campus. If you put one campus and one starting semester, then that is what they will evaluate for. They don’t automatically evaluate for summer or other campuses.

The criteria is the same for all students I believe…2/3 GPA and 1/3 standardized test scores.

@parneel If you get rejected for smeal I suggest you to call them ask to be reconsidered for DUS and tell them you are willing to do the summer session. It’s not difficult to transfer from DUS to Smeal. Cr screwed my sat scores (680m,610w,520cr) I hope they see that my math is strong. And can you tell me your grades please???

@ind1900 I got 9 cgpa in 9th grade. I got 9.8 in 10th grade. My 11th was ok , and my 12th mid terms were dreadful cuz of my fever. I have got into IU, and I will most probably go for standard kelley. But still its good to have options. Also I got my predicted grades and they pretty great. I got 90 in 2 subjects and 85-90 in the other 3 .

IU is brilliant but I heard it is very difficult to get in standard. Is econ your backup???. I got into MSU though it is not better than Penn State , It is a good school. And I suggest you apply to Purdue also. your grades are brilliant and do not worry about your 12th marks because penn state does not look consider them. Where are from in India???

@ind1900‌ I am from Delhi. And yes, Economics will be my back up. I applied to ASU for WP Carey School of Business. And I should get in considering WP Carey requires 1160 (W+CR) . I also applied to Purdue and uMass. Also, its not very difficult getting in standard because we have done most of the maths here in Grade 12th. The english courses might be tough but the pre req courses like ECON E201 arent that tough.

Even I have applied to umass. ASU dose not have a lot of reputation. If you are a commerce student it will be more easy because you would’ve studied about the subject even before college. And I have one doubt In the penn state application it asked what all math courses you have completed. I ticked everything because our math covers all those chapters. Did you do the same thing???

Yes, I did . @ind1900‌ . Also not a commerce student. I took PCM+Eco in 11th . Haha

I am also trying to get into SRCC. If I do get into that then I would stay in India. Since it is the best college in India

You should try, but its quite tough to get 99%

not the cut off is 97.5%, one of my realtive got in with 97.75%
