what are my chances for RD?

I know a lot of SCEA applicants are waiting for their results so if you want to help me out that would be great… what percent chance do you think i have of being accepted RD?

SAT I:N/A
SAT II: N/A
ACT: 33 (E:33, M:34, CR:35, S:30)
Unweighted GPA (out of 4.0): 3.99
Rank: school doesn’t rank, definitely top 10%
AP: APUSH (5), Biology (5), Chemistry (4)

Current course load at high school: Religion, AP Gov, H English, AP Calc, AP Physics, Spanish (all courses honors or highest possible) most rigorous classes all 4 years

Major Awards (USAMO, Intel etc.):

 1. national: 3rd place at a world robofest competition freshman year
 2. State: all-area tennis player
 3. School: top biology, chemistry, and physics student

Extracurriculars: 3 year varsity tennis player (captain), student council representative, varsity quiz bowl (captain)

Community service: Volunteering at a local hospital,

Job/Work Experience: summer internship at a prestigious public state university (40hours/week), wrote a research paper during the internship

Summer Activities: CTY, CTD, summer internship (above)

Essays: Great

Teacher Recommendation: Two great recommendations from current school & one from my professor over the summer

Counselor Rec: fantastic

Interview: none

State (if domestic applicant):
School Type: private catholic, never sends kids to ivys
Ethnicity: asian
Gender: F
Income Bracket: 180,000 +

You have solid scores for any school, great classes and extra curriculars, but I’d hate to say it, and personally disagree with this, but your Asian. That’s a problem, you have a lot of competition with better scores, more classes and many prestigious awards, and even then some have been rejected, judging from stanford and Columbia ed. Best of luck, and apply, you never know how admissions will go about, and perhaps you have that one talent their looking for.

Yale SCEAer.

thanks, i am truly looking for honest opinions

i don’t know if this helps, but my school only offers 7 APs and i am taking 6 (the other one is AP Euro and i want to be an engineer so i didn’t feel the need to take it)

To be honest, I think you will be deferred. I’m only saying this based on the SCEA decision thread for 2014.

i have almost the exact same stats as you
but i do dance instead of sports.
and i got rejected EA

thank you everyone! i just want to know so i don’t get my hopes up too high…

ilovepandapanda (and others), where else are you applying?

anyone else want to chance?

Decent scores + experience with quantitative subjects/research work is always helpful (especially the latter since Yale wants more science students). How good of a writer are you? Do you have any other accomplishments that aren’t completely academic/run by the school? I’m talking about stuff like advanced proficiency with an instrument or an interest in international affairs or study abroad experiences, etc. These are the kinds of things that will make your application more interesting.

I have played piano for the past 10 years, but it has mostly been for my own enjoyment

I guess one of my main questions is does the fact that nobody from my school has taken the courses i have (plus held leadership positions) or done research during the summer make a difference when admissions looks at my application?

It will make you stand out compared to them if they ALSO apply, but in all honesty, many many applicants to Yale have done one or all of those things that you’ve mentioned - it all depends on how you talk about it.

As an aside, you are taking criticism very well. That’s quite unusual for new people with chance threads.

well i figure that what’s meant to happen will happen, it’s not like i can cure cancer in the next 3 months, lol.

I mainly want to know what my chances are because there is another girl at my school with a lower gpa, act score (31), less challenging classes, less extracurriculars, but more awards (mostly state piano ones) who applied to the same schools i am - but she is african american

at the risk of sounding bitter, i just wanted to know my chances because she keeps telling people that she has a “fantastic” chance of being accepted to all the schools, and i don’t see how it is fair because i believe i have worked harder than her.
