Hello.

I am applying to Princeton RD.

Here are my stats:

SAT: 710 math, 680 verbal, 660 writing, 2050 total
SAT IIs: 770 World History, 720 Biology E, 650 Chemistry
APs so far: 5 World History, 4 AP Biology. Presently taking AP US History and AP French Language
Essays: Deeply Philosopical, my teachers enjoyed reading them. One was about the first time I sang a solo in a concert (see my hook below)
Teacher Recs: Glowing
Counselor Rec: Very positive
Rank: In the top tenth
School: A public magnet school in NY
GPA: 3.7/4
Hook: I am a bass singer. I have been singing for several years, and have won awards for my singing. I have submitted a CD
ECs: My school’s chamber chorus since freshman year, 2-year stint as treasurer and administrator of school’s online newspaper, NHS

What do you think? My other schools are Harvard, Yale, Columbia, Oberlin, Tufts, Williams, and U. Chicago. I have already been accepted to the SUNY schools I applied to.

Doubtful. SATs and GPA are shaky and ECs aren’t anything special.

Chances:

Harvard - big reach
Princeton - big reach
Yale - big reach
Williams - reach
U. Chicago - reach
Tufts - slight reach
Oberlin - realistic

My Predictions:

Harvard - reject
Princeton - reject
Yale - reject
Williams - reject
U. Chicago - waitlist
Tufts - accept
Oberlin - accept

You may have a better chance than the previous poster stated. It depends on your ethnicity. If you are a urm, your chances at all of these schools is improved significantly. In addition, your skill and dedication to singing is impressive, and many of these schools are looking to recruit artists (especially Princeton). Anything can happen. Admission at these elite schools is unpredictable.

His GPA and SAT isnt bad at all. Before you guys make a decision, why dont you guys check the stats of those who were accepted EA? He has a good chance, though raising the SAT might be a good idea.

Um… because the stats don’t reflect those who were rejected, often with the same or higher?

It’s about time I see a fellow rocker! Sevendust is one of the best bands out there. Dave Mathews and all those SOFT posers do not deserve to be classified as rock artists.

who knows, their choir might need a singer…its all speculation…but if they dont, id go with ictoan’s predictions

I am deferred at Early Decision. Here is a review of my academic record.
GPA: 4.0
SAT: 2000?
AP: U.S. His 5, economics 4, physics 4, World History 4, European History 4.

What awards have you won? How much of a time commitment is chorus for you? Have you been invited to sing with any group or at an event? I think these factors would play into how much of a hook this is for you. Schools receive many applications from choir members so any way you can stand out and make this a “hook” would improve your chances. It is good that you wrote your essay about this and sent in a CD. It shows your passion for it. I’m not going to make a prediction for any of the schools you applied to because I’m not an adcom, but I think the depth of your choral participation would determine how much of a factor that could play in your admissions. Like someone said, if they’re looking for a singer they might take you.
