What are my chances for the Applied Economics and Management School?

I have been wanting to attend Cornell for over a year and have just found out that I could complete my desired major-accounting- and still be able to sit for the CPA exam. I took the SAT in May and scored a 600 on math, 520 reading, 540 writing. I also took my ACT but without the writing. My GPA is a 101 on a 100 point scale. I am currently 2nd or 3rd in my class of 80 students. I participate in clubs and have been secretary for quite a few. I am very involved in my school band and have been accepted into area honor bands. I participate in extracurricular activities but by no means am I a prodigy or a genius. I just work hard and I am hoping to somehow be accepted into Cornell.

Unfortunately, Cornell doesn’t accept the ACT without writing. Your SAT score as it stands now is just not competitive for Cornell. You can try to retake the SAT or take the ACT with writing before the application due date. That’s your best shot right now.

What is the lowest SAT score I could get and still be accepted into Cornell?

It’s not like Cornell has a cutoff for SAT scores, but for the Class of 2017 the mid-50% of SAT (M+CR) was 1320 - 1520. So being within that range is your best bet.

Today I was announced as the current salutatorian of my graduating class, so I was wondering if that would make up for the 200 point difference on my SAT?

You need to get your SAT up. There’s no way around it. There’s simply no kind of hook that’ll allow you to be accepted with a 1660 total SAT score. You’ll be competing against AEM applicants who have close to that with just their critical reading and math scores combined. Being salutatorian is great, but it’s all about context. What kind of classes do you take, and how rigorous is your high school? There are thousands of top-ranked students from very competitive high schools that are rejected each year. What makes you any different? (and you’ll have to show the adcoms this, not us, in your application)

Keep in mind that AEM has around an 8% acceptance rate for the major. Not only does someone have to be in the ballpark, they pretty much need to hit a home run to get in these days.

Best of luck!
