What are my chances for UC’s? [3.79/4.13/4.13 GPAs for UC, computer science]

Hello, I’m currently a senior in highschool and I’m applying to all the UC’s. I wanted to know my shot of getting admitted for each UC.

To start off, with Academics, I have a 3.8UW and a 4.12W GPA.

Here are the AP’s took my Junior Year with the test score:

  • AP English - 4
  • AP Physics 1 - 4
  • AP CSP - 4

(Took one honors course - Int Math 3H)

Here are the courses I’m taking this year:

  • AP Literature
  • AP Physics C
  • AP CSA
  • AP Calculus AB

(Spanish 3H)

I’ve spent majority of my childhood in Mongolia. Our family moved here during my sophomore year. So, I wasn’t able to get the grades I though were truly reflective of mine.

Extra Curriculurs:

I’ve played to piano since 4th grade, so I’ve won:

-2 International Piano Competition Medals

Back in Mongolia, during 9th grade:

  • Silver: District Physics Olympiad (Placed 2nd out of around 80 students)

  • Statewide Physics Olympiad (Placed 9th of around a hundred students), 10 students from district qualified for this.

  • I’ve been in VEX Robotics my Junior and Senior year, and I’m an engineer in our team.

-Over 100 Hours of Volunteer Hours

-VP of our schools Build and Design club where we design and construct architectural models. (Only this year)

Majors:

-Computer Science as main
-Electrical Engineering as alternative

I felt like my essays were solid.

I was wondering since I haven’t been in California for exactly 3 years (around 2.5), but am planning to graduate from a California Highschool, am I counted as out of state or in state? (I’m a US citizen though and so is one of my parents)

I would like to know y’all’s opinion on which UC’s I have a chance at.

Welcome to College Confidential.

Can you calculate out the 3 UC GPA’s (unweighted, capped weighted and weighted uncapped)?

https://rogerhub.com/gpa-calculator-uc/

Ok,

Unweighted -3.79
Weighted Uncapped - 4.13
Weighted Capped - 4.13

You and your parents must have been physically present in California for 366 days with intent to remain in California, according to Residency requirements | Understanding residency for purposes of UC tuition .

There is also the AB540 way of being exempt from non-resident tuition through high school graduation with three years of high school and/or community college attendance in California: AB 540 nonresident tuition exemption | UC Admissions

(You do not need both of the above, just one.)

You’ve been living in California with your parents, who have been paying state taxes for 2.5 years correct? You will continue to live in California and receive a diploma from a California high school. I would say that you would be considered an instate resident.

I am going to list the most current admit rates for CS and EE that I could find along with admitted GPA ranges (25th-75th) to give you an idea of where you may stand

Campus CS Electrical Eng
UC Berkeley 1.9%/ UC Capped weighted GPA 4.20-4.30 Campus UC unweighted 3.89-4.00 Campus Weighted uncapped 4.31-4.65 7.6% EECS
UC Davis 19% Selective Major/ UC Capped weighted GPA 4.19-4.30 Campus UC unweighted 3.80-4.00 Estimated <40%
UC Irvine 16.8% Impacted Major/ UC Capped weighted GPA 4.12-4.29 Campus UC unweighted 3.83-4.00 25.2%
UCLA 3.1% Impacted Major/ Capped weighted GPA 4.25-4.32 Campus UC unweighted 3.90-4.00 CS Weighted Uncapped 4.62-4.87 9.9%
UC Merced 90%/ UC Capped weighted GPA 3.59-4.15 89%
UC Riverside 32% Impacted major/ UC Capped weighted GPA 4.03-4.28 71.4%
UC San Diego 12% Selective Major /UC Capped weighted GPA 4.19-4.31 Estimated <25% Capped/Selective Major
UC Santa Barbara 10% Impacted Major/ UC Capped weighted GPA 4.23-4.31 Estimated 21%
UC Santa Cruz 60% Impacted Major/UC Capped weighted GPA 3.96-4.26 61.7%

Good luck to you.

Just based on your UC CAP GPA and results from S24’s high school, I would say you are targeting UCR/UCSC for CS and CE. You need to add some safety other than UCM, in case you want more options in Spring. I would suggest any non-impacted CSU. Good Luck.
