Hi! I’m a senior at Alexander Hamilton High School, and have been glued to wanting to go to University of California, Los Angeles since the 6th grade. I received an 1850 on the SAT, and a 27 on the ACT. My grades in 11th grade were as follows: AP Chemistry (A,A) AP Spanish Lang (B,A) AP Eng Lang (B,B) AP Psychology (B), and H. Trigonometry (B,B). I received a 4 on every AP test, except for AP Chem, and AP Psychology, where I received a 3. What are my chances for acceptance into UCLA? Please help me. I’m currently taking AP GOV & POL, AP Calculus, AP Lit, AP Spanish Lit, AP Physics, and so far, I have all A’s except for AP Calculus and AP Physics where I have 2 C’s.

Scores and stats look too low for UCLA. Perhaps a couple years of great grades at Santa Monica College is your best bet. Good luck!

I’d have to agree with the previous response unfortunately. Your courseload is definitely rigorous, but your UC GPA and test scores are below average for students accepted to UCLA. You’ll probably be accepted to some of the other UCs if you applied to them. Although I will have to say, you never know, especially if you wrote a bomb essay and have ECs that really make you stand out. If you don’t get in you can take the SMC route or go to UCLA for grad school.

Here is the 2014 Freshman Profile for UCLA. Check it out and compare your Stats. You will see you are not competitive for UCLA. I suggest you look at other UC’s such as UCSC/UCI and UCR.

Test scores and GPA are not competitive for UCLA, sorry but 80K kids with qualifying scores, who are applying, bite into your admission chances.

Thank you all for your honesty. I’m definitely looking into other school, and I’m trying to eliminate UCLA from my mind. Very great feedback. Thanks!

But just in case you have other amazing aspects to your application and write amazing essays like
UC-Dreams mentioned, and can afford to check the UCLA box, then you should check the box. Yes, the input you received is valid and it is good to go in with realistic expectations, but you don’t have to give up your dreams yet. Some in the bottom 25% do get in because other things bring them up in other ways. Just don’t count on them and have a backup plan, so that way you are never too disappointed and maybe even pleasantly surprised! Good luck!
