Hi all, I’ve searched but haven’t seen much on these forums about students interested in the University of Michigan’s Secondary Education Teacher certification program, so I’d like any input or insights on my chances to get into this program via the “Preferred Admissions Program”.
I would like to teach Spanish (major) and probably minor in History or teaching English as a second language. Ultimate goal to teach and research Romance languages and linguistics at the college/university level.
I am a high school Junior at an Ann Arbor public high school.
3.93 Unweighted GPA –
AP History (4)
AP Spanish (in progress)
AP English Language and Composition (in progress)
AP English Literature (will take Senior year)
AP European History (will take Senior year)
AP Statistics (will take Senior year)
AP Psychology (this is Online only; should I take it?)
27 ACT (33 Reading, 28 English, 29 Writing, 24 Math, 23 Science) – I know this is on the low side but plan to take again
1300-1350 SAT (this is an estimate based on how I’m doing on the Princeton Review SAT tests)

• Co-Founder of Mighty Minds, a mentoring team I co-lead with 3 others, that travels to elementary schools to teach & mentor children in various topics in an interactive, dynamic fashion

Hispanic, native Spanish speaker; self-taught (although not fluent) in Portuguese and Italian.
Like to do independent research and writing on cultural and language topics, e.g., Spain’s influence on the Philippines; dialects of Colombia; Colonial influence on African languages, etc.
What are my chances for Teacher Ed. at UM with a 27 ACT or 1300 SAT? Thanks!!!
