Hi im Ruy a student from mexico. I got a score in the SAT reasoning of about 1500 (600 math, 500 cr, 400 writing =S) and terrible scores in the Subject ones.
I want to apply to universities like UCSD/LA UT at austin and maybe some others
I’m worried that my low scores will affect me a lot so I’ve been reading about how applying works for international students and some people say that my scores are actually quite good…but im not sure…and im nervous I cannot retake the SAT subject for my apps but i will retake the reasoning one.

Your SAT score are pretty low. I’d be studying hard. I don’t know for international applicants. UCLA has become pretty tough for domestic applicants though. Being from Mexico, I assume that hablas espa

your spanish is quite good umm well i’ve earned lots of awards from UN model competitions and coached a team, I play guitar in a band I go to an orphanarium to help. and well aside from that I just play video games and go to school. I used to ride dirtbikes but i broke my arm and stopped doing that. I went one year to germany as an exchange student and i should also mention that I go to the german school here and have a fairly good gpa which should translate to about 3.5 which i think is quite good for such a hard school with a dual system…ohh yeah im getting 2 diplomas mexican highschool and german highschool diplomas

*When you say “orphanarium” do you mean ‘a place where orphans live?’ If you do, then the proper word is orphanage.

Model UN is good, as is playing an instrument. NEVER tell colleges you play video games in your spare time (don’t worry, we all do, but colleges don’t want to hear that).

A possibly good essay could be about your experience riding dirt bikes, and how breaking your arm changed your life, it would sound original.

Also studying in Germany sounds good, another possible essay topic. Do you speak German? Did you take the SAT Subject Test in German?

3.5 GPA sounds good, I’d say if you retake the SAT Reasoning test , and can pull up your grade, you would have a decent shot at all your schools.

yeah i speak german actually 70% of my classes are in german and I did take the subject test in german but somehow I managed to screw it up i really dont know how I only got 580…
thats the thing that im mostly worried about…
I just don’t really know what to do right now, im focusing a lot on my essays and future SAT but im worried that i might get rejected from everywhere… although im using ASU (arizona State University) as a safety and I think I’ve got a pretty good chance there plus I’ve heard positive things about the economics department there (oh yeah I wanna study economics)
