What are my chances in my own backyard?

Ok. I’m applying to Tufts and live about a 20 minute walk from the campus. What do you think my chances are out of 10 (1-rejected, 10-accepted) for Tufts??

SAT I: 700 cr, 670 math, 640 writing

SAT II: Lit-680, Math IIc-620, American History-760

AP: 5 on AP gov’t, 4 on us history

Grades: Always took hardest classes
All As Freshman year
mostly B+/A- sophomore year,
Junior year 2-3 A-s, 2-3 B+s and B-/Cs in precal and ap English

Essay: Wrote about stuff I started and passion for politics. Good not great

Parents: MIT

School: urban public high school

Freshman-Student Council, Regional Science Fair participant, History Day competitor

Sophomore-Started JSA (political club), Kerry Campaign (volunteer), Academic Decathlon, Student Council, Regional Science Fair participant

Junior-JSA (president), Kerry Campaign (intern), Academic Decathlon, Student Council, student advisory council to the state department of ed, regional science fair, state senate campaign, founder of students against Romney (Boston Globe printed an article on us that I am sending w my application)

Senior-JSA (president), School committee campaign (field director) Academic Decathlon, Student Council (co-president), chairman of legislative workgroup of the student advisory council to the state department of ed

Recommendations: one good more personal teacher rec, one nice but more boring teacher rec, one additional rec from a state senator who included a lot of details.

Other: JSA summer school at Yale summer between freshman and sophomore year, NHS, one of 10 state finalists for senate youth program

If you go to Medford or Sommerville schools, then you should have a good chance - Tufts really likes to take kids from there (attempt to improve town/gown relationships).

Your extracurriculars look good - you should have a decent shot. If you are contemplating math/science, you should include something about why you don’t want to go to MIT (or why you want to go to Tufts - like “fabulous pre-med and the students aren’t cutthroat”).

Id give you a 7. Sat II scores are low but you seem alright.

i would have though you’d have grown to hate tufts students the way i hate amherst students.

having lived near it, you probly have good material for a “why tufts” essay. because you know it better than we do.

Living next to Tufts isnt that bad. I get to go to their library to do research for stuff, and we can take classes there for practically nothing.

I wouldn’t worry too much about your scores. My SAT scores were 660 Bio, 670 Lit, 680 Spanish.

Grades might present more of a problem however. Wowem with your essays!
