What are my chances of getting into an Ivy?

<p>Hi. I am applying early decision to an Ivy. What do you think my chances are?</p>

<p>-SAT 1: Math=760, Reading=720, Writing=690
-SAT 2: US History=750, Literature=730
-Gender: Female
-Unweighted average is a 94 which translates to a 4.0 GPA.
-School type: Competitive private school
-Rank: top 5 out of a class size of 110-120
-APs taken junior and senior year: AP US, AP Literature, AP Calc AB, AP European History,
AP Economics
-Have taken mostly honors classes
-Have taken 4 years of Chinese
-AP Scholar
-White female from New England
-2nd place finish in regional essay contest</p>

<p>Extra-curriculars: Varisty tennis for 4 years…varsity tennis captain senior year
-Section editor of newspaper
-Student tour guide
-Dorm prefect
-Intern at nonforprofit wheel-chair ramp making organization
-Worked in retail store for 300+ hours
-Varsity cross country runner for 2 years
-Member of theatre club (requires 120+ hours of stage work)
-LOTS of community service
Essays: Very strong
Counselor and Teacher Recs: Excellent</p>

<p>Your extracurriculars make up for the lower numbers so if your essays are truly “very strong” then I’d say you have a pretty good chance :)</p>

<p>Has anybody noticed the rarity on these chance threads of a poster self-rating their essays as “pretty weak” or the equivalent? </p>

<p>Maybe the weak essayists just avoid posting on CC. </p>

<p>Or maybe CC is like Lake Woebegone?</p>

<p>To OP. You certainly meet the Profile for Ivies – the SAT writing is a bit low. As you probably know, admissions rates are miniscule, so it’s hard to gauge anyone’s chances.</p>

<p>One thought – I believe that Cornell doesn’t use the SAT writing at all (and has a somewhat higher acceptance rate than the other Ivies).</p>

probably because either
a) everyone here is super motivated and is willing to work hard on essays
or
b) everyone here has a huge ego. hehe jk</p>
