<p>I just started my junior year in high school, so I have yet to take the SAT’s or an ACT. What should I aim for on them?
My UW GPA by the end of this year will be at LEAST a 3.39 on a 4.0 scale, and my Weighted GPA will become at LEAST a 5.11 on a 6.0 scale. I’m in the top 10% of my class (23/223), but that also will improve by the end of this year. (Last year I was having a lot of family issues and struggled with depression so I just settled with almost straight Bs.)
Last year I took 2 AP classes; World History, and Psychology. I scored a 3 on the world history and a 4 on the Psych. I am currently in 4 Aps, all of which I plan on passing; English, Calc 1 AB , Studio Art, and US history. Besides those, all of my other classes are GT level and have been since freshman year.
I want to get into Carnegie for Visual Arts and Computer sciences (not math or literature or anything of that extremely academic sort.) I want to do something with art, is what I mean. (Animation would be my dream job but I need to get into a good school first!)
I’m currently the Vice president of the National Art Honor Society in my school, and will be president next year. I do a lot of volunteer work such as playing piano for retirement homes and am painting murals within the school. (And will be doing more stuff throughout the year.) I’m a member of the Mu Alpha Theta and National english honor society as well. I don’t know if my ethnicity makes a difference either, but I’m middle eastern (Syria.)…xD haha.
How are my chances looking so far, and what else should I work on? I’m lost when it comes to college research, so help and advice would really be appreciated! :D</p>
<p>Virginia Tech seems to be a definite possibility for you as of right now of the 3 schools you have listed. However, if you do really well junior year, then I believe you will also have a good chance of getting into Carnegie and NYU. Just get around a 2100 on the SAT(SO PREPARE A LOT), try to get straight A’s, and do a lot of volunteer work or focus on a club or organization that interests you(Something unique to get your foot in the door). I was also considering RISD as well? I really don’t have that much breadth on different types of good colleges, but I really like the idea of the type of major/program that carnegie has; the bachelors in computer sciences and arts. So good schools with similar programs? I plan on getting at LEAST a 1900 on the SATs and will probably take the ACTs at some point too.</p>
<p>The average GPA at NYU and CMU is substantially higher than yours, but you class rank is very good, so hopefully that might make up for it.</p>
<p>Yeah, I realized that, I slacked off way too much freshman and sophomore year… 
but i hope to make up for it with what i can, like AP scores and SAT scores and extra curriculars/volunteering that will set me apart from others. What about my chances at Pratt and RISD?</p>
