What are my chances of getting into Georgetown?

<p>So I am a tenth grader at a public school in central New York. My school is regarded as one of the top public schools in the state, and better than almost every private school in the area. However, my parents and I are considering transferring me to prep school for eleventh and twelfth grade. I am doing well in the school I am currently enrolled in, although I am not in the top of my class as I am taking one of the most challenging course loads available. The college I have wanted to go to since I was seven in Georgetown. I either want to go to the Walsh School of Foreign Service, which is my preference, or just attend the college. I will do anything to get into this school, including transferring to boarding school in order to get there. I am just wondering if I have what it takes to get into there.</p>

<p>I skipped eighth grade math and science, so In eight grade I took Algebra and Earth Science, which are ninth grade classes.</p>

<p>In ninth grade I took:
Spanish 3R
English 9 Honors
Biology 10 Regents
Geometry 10 Regents
Global History I 9 Honors
Adolescent Psychology
Career and Financial Management
and Concert Choir</p>

<p>This year I am enrolled in:
Spanish 4R
English 10 Honors
Global History II Honors
Algebra 2/Trig Regents
Chemistry Regents
French 2
Child Psychology I
and Concert Choir</p>

<p>The activities I have done in the past two years are:
Junior Statesmen of America (which I founded this year)
Model United Nations (founding member)
Mock Trial
International Club (Vice President)
Men’s A Cappella Group
Junior Varsity Soccer
Varsity Indoor Track
Varsity Tennis
Drama Club</p>

<p>My GPA freshman year was 3.9, my GPA this year is 4.0. I cannot take any A.P.s until eleventh grade, but if I stay at this school I will enroll in 3 next year and 3 my senior year, which is the largest amount possible.</p>

<p>I also participate in lots of drama, and I have done modeling work, music videos, small television roles, and professional plays.</p>

<p>What do you think my chances of getting into Georgetown are, and do you think I should transfer?</p>

<p>To be honest, I think you have excellent chances—definitely at Georgetown College, and probably at SFS as well. Your GPA is perfect, I’m sure your SAT/ACT scores will be too, and your ECs are outstanding. Ironically, the only thing you have to watch out for is being TOO cookie-cutter; it seems like you’re trying so hard to impress the adcoms that you’re loading up on too many ECs and asking whether you should transfer to a boarding school just to get into GTown. It’s good to have a lot of ECs during freshmen and sophomore years (“exploring,” per se) but focus on your passions during junior and senior years, don’t increase the number of ECs, just the leadership (which is already quite impressive). And, most importantly, take a breather, enjoy high school while you’re in it, and you’re going to have excellent chances at many top universities. Good luck with everything!</p>

<p>Edit: not sure if your GPA is unweighted or weighted, especially since you said you weren’t in the top of your class. If it’s weighted, I’m sure you’ll pull it up by your senior year, and even a 4.0-4.1W is really solid. Again, nothing to worry about; colleges will recognize that you’re taking the hardest courseload possible and definitely succeeding.</p>

<p>My G.P.A is out of the 4.3 scale, so its like a 94 average maybe?</p>

<p>i agree with lovestoned, you have good chances. however, why would you go to a prep school if your public school is “better than almost every private school in the area”?</p>

<p>The prep school is the boarding school that my mom’s brother attended.</p>
