What are my Chances of getting into NYU or Berkeley

Alright…lets start with my SAT scores. I got a score of 1800 (i know it is really low), getting 600 in each section. I am from europe so i know that the give me a bit of consideration, but i will be retaking them in december and hopefully get 2000+ (i underestimated them). I did take my SAT II as well, in Math 2 and physics, where i got 800 a piece (spent alot of time studying). So since i got 800 in math 2 will they ignore my normal math score?

Now, even though i am from europe, im still american, and have been living in europe all my life, and am in the british school system (which is harder then the american). My extra curicular things are i have a been playing rugby for a good 10 years now. I can play under 18s national level (but cannot because i don’t have the nationality of the country i am in, but the coach will voach for me and says i could get in easily). For work experience, i have worked at the UN last summer, and this summer i went to Zimbabwe and followed a doctor around a hospital for a couple weeks (to show im committed to medicine). Ive done MUN events, part of the Student Council for a 4 years. Head of middle school student council. e.t.c.

My question is because of my SATs scores (assuming they dont get better) will my chances be drastically reduced?

Berkeley chooses people through a method called comprehensive review. They really look at the individual they are admitting. Do not worry too much about the low SAT, but try to increase it. Try as best you can to express yourself to the college. Good luck

Yes. I’m from California and I know that although Berkeley is less mechanical in their admissions process than other UCs (it’s basically a numbers process), numbers are still important. So keep up your grades, take honors/APs weighted courses, and improve that SAT score!

Im African American as well, if that makes much of a difference (im not too sure seeing as i haven’t lived in America for 15 years…

Why would studying in England give you a leeway in terms of test scores?

Being URM will help you a lot.
