I am a high school junior right now and always have considered NYU as a school that i would really like to attend. Based on the below information, how well of a chance do you think i stand of getting into CAS for a bio major? Also, please note that my desired field of study is veterinary medicine. Thanks!

4.27 GPA
4 ap classes so far (including this year)
all other classes are at the honors level (due to lack of ap as a freshman)
have not taken the SAT yet, but planning to score a 2000/2100 (rough estimate)
math team
habitat for humanity
4H club
jewish community theater- volunteer
local vet clinic- volunteer
tennis (sophomore and freshman year)
Karate (10 years)
max honors
presidential awards
spanish national honor society

Also, planning to attend Tufts vet summer program over this upcoming summer.
Additionally, how would an educational experience at NYU differ from Pace? I want to receive the best one possible/affordable…so would getting a lot of scholarship money at Pace be better to accept than getting less money at NYU? Thanks for your thoughts! :D

If your unweighted GPA is 3.7 or so and SAT is at or above approximately 2050, you should be a match/high match for CAS. Numbers-wise, it is the second most competitive school at NYU (first is Stern).

It’s not worth going into tens or hundreds of thousands of debt for any school, whether it be NYU, Pace, or an Ivy for that matter. However, NYU is a much, much better school academically than Pace is, so I would recommend it over Pace 9 out of 10 times. However, if attending NYU would put you in serious debt while going to Pace would leave you debt-free NYU is obviously not the sensible decision. Additionally, if you plan on going to vet school, saving $ might be the better option.

thanks!! i understand what you mean… money could be a factor but hopefully if all goes well, it will come down to academically what school is the best for me, where i will get the better education.

also, thinking about applying to nyu poly after my school’s college fair a few days ago…know the difference between doing bio there and bio at CAS? ik its cheaper but do you still have access to the regular nyu campus/resources? thanks :D

^NYU poly is not an undergraduate school of NYU. It’s a separate institution (Polytechnic Institute) that took the NYU name a few years ago. So no, being in Brooklyn, they don’t (to my knowledge) really have access to the NYU campus/resources. I think eventually they might tho… idk.

I imagine the bio major there would be more focused on engineering and sorts. CAS bio would be more of a traditional pre-med/pre-vet major.

and yea, you’ll get a better education at NYU than Pace :)

haha ok cool good to know…thanks sooooooooo much for the help :D

Just to shed some light on your statement before, regarding what is “best for [you], is where [you] will get the better education.”

Keep in mind that your education is very dependent on your surroundings and how you deal with your environment. You get a MUCH better education if you go to a school you would live comfortably in than one you dread. It does not matter if one is ranked 10 in the country and the other 1,000.

Make sure that you, at least try, to get a sense of how comfortable you will be here at NYU. I, personally, believe it is a fantastic university with fantastic opportunities. I have seen others who are beginning to dread what life is like in New York City and are falling short of their potential as a result.

Get your money’s worth and go somewhere you will enjoy.

If you think that’s here at NYU, then best of luck to you!

yes i agree
thanks
nyc is my favorite place in the world and i am very independent as well (academically and socially(not saying i am a loner haha, i just mean that i am not overly dependent on my parents or others)), so with that said my outlook on NYU now is that i can probably handle the environment. I also visited the surrounding area this summer(not specifically NYU) and really liked it, idk to me it was nice, it wasn’t as busy as other areas of the city(but that just could have been the particular day i went), but still had the hustle and bustle lol, it had a nice balance in my opinion… but i know that could all change so i am keeping my options open…do you think i have a good shot at getting in? i know i don’t have SAT or ACT scores as of now, but i am planning to do well (at least after a few tries lol). And when do you recommend visiting the campus, i only live 1 state over, so any time of the year is accessible, i just didn’t know if there was a better time(and i wan’t to get it done this year because i plan on applying ED next fall) … thanks for the feedback. Also, does NYU give out decent academic scholarships or are they mostly based on financial need? THANK YOU :D

Poly has access to Bobst Library, the bookstore, and Poly students may take (and are currently taking) classes of the College of Arts and Sciences at NYU.

beep beep lol…anyone???

nyu doesn’t really do aid. lmao
