What are MY chances of getting into U.Va?

It really amazes me at how admissions is different between first year and transfer…

I knew I wanted to go to UVA, but I knew my SAT’s as an OOS applicant would kill me. I had an 1100 on my SAT, but I was in the top 5% of my HS class (average-to-mediocre school) with a fair number of Honors and AP courses. I had a 4.0 in 46 credits at my local state university in PA. I only had a couple of EC’s in college and worked the rest of the time as a regular retail employee. My essays were good (maybe very good), but hardly spectacular and I had two professors write option recs for me that were probably great.

Maybe it’s less “prestigious” than being accepted as a first year, but in the end we all get the same diploma. It also saved me like 30k in tuition since the school I transferred from had given me all sorts of merit scholarships. ;)

Actually wahoogrl08, the admission rates for first year and transfer students are essentially the same, so it’s not any easier to get in as a transfer than it is as a first-year. They focus more on your college grades than on your SAT scores.

When an instate Latina girl of that caliber gets into an Ivy school but is waitlisted at UVA, something is seriously wrong here.

Why is that weird guillaume?. Cornell and UVa are peer institutions. I have known a few kids who have gotten waitlisted or rejected from UVA and accepted into Cornell and Georgetown. As much as I wanted my little sister to have gotten into UVA, she clearly didn’t deserve to get in–I don’t doubt the conclusions reached by the admissions committee.

Apply to Dartmouth.
