<p>Last year, I applied to UCLA and was accepted for the fall 2013 semester. I was unable to attend due to the enormous out of state tuition costs. I have been attending community college in my state and have been accelerating the process by taking a heavy course load each semester. I will have my associate degree by this summer. I will have completed my education at a community college in one year. I applied to UCLA again as a junior for the fall 2014 semester. Technically, I would be a sophomore because it would only be my second year of college, but I will have a junior standing based on the credits I will have upon graduation from community college this summer. The price of going there will still be expensive but at least it will be half as it would have been if I had gone the full four years. At my community college I have a 4.0 GPA, I have been on scholarship based on academic merit since enrolling, and I am a member of the honor society Phi Theta Kappa. The only thing that worries me is that I have 2 “W” grades on my transcript. However, I have taken both classes again and have received an “A” in both. Also, the reason I withdrew was not because I was doing badly in the class. I explained on the application that one of the reasons was financial and another reason was due to the fact that I simply needed a different class at the time. Another thing that worries me is upon recently reviewing my application, I noticed a typo in the personal statement. The reason I don’t think I made this error is because it occurred in two different words but in the exact same place. I had reviewed my application multiple times before submitting and had not noticed anything. Somehow, my apostrophes were changed to “a??” so the word “don’t” for example, looks like dona??t. Besides that, there are no other typos in the essay. I noticed it was only in places where I had typed an apostrophe which only occurred in two places. Besides the type, my writing is one of my really strong points and I think the content is more important, but I am not sure. Anyways, I am thinking because I was already admitted to UCLA last year and because my academic record is strong and because of my scholarship and involvement with PTK, that I will still be admitted again. However, I tend to over-analyze and worry and I feel as if the “W” grades on my transcript and the typo will somehow affect me and I won’t get in. What do you think?</p>
<p>I wouldn’t worry about the typo. As to the rest, I think the only concern is that the UCs tend to want to reward the CA community colleges with transfers, so you wouldn’t have priority. However, I don’t know how much that influences anything, to be honest.</p>
