<p>I am starting my 2nd semester of my sophomore year.
I had a 4.0 for the last 3 semesters. I am taking the hardest classes that are available for me as of now (AP Euro and World Lit Honors). I am Hispanic. I participated in football,track, and band freshman year ad my only EC for sophomore year so far is wind ensemble band (i have not done sports sophomore year). What can I do now to prepare to get into UCLA? What can I do over the summer? Should I do academic decathlon, student govt, debate, science fair, history day, MESA, or what??? I don’t have a passion yet. Do I have a good start? I am hoping to get into a computer science major. I might be able to take the Advanced Computer Science (P) class at my school if it was not cut out due to the recession. what do i do now?</p>
<p>First off, your freshmen year grades don’t really count for much so there’g not much to say about your gpa, cept that you should keep it up while taking those hard courses you’re already taking.</p>
<p>Make sure you pick 2-3 activities or clubs or anything that you will be able to stand out in and make sure you get a high level positions like president or an award. It’s better to stay with the same clubs and activites for all 4 years rather than go into a lot of different clubs. If you can, start up a club or something if you’re into that kind of stuff ( don’t just do it for getting into college)</p>
<p>You say that you don’t have a passion yet, but you still have lots of time to experience differnt thing. Do some competitions for subjects you like, volunteer at places that seem interesting, get summer job. There’s many opportunities for you to find your “thing” and they also help beef up your application.</p>
<p>If you like computer science, see if you can find some sort of computer-type job or program for students. Try taking some classes at a local community college and explore other subjects, or just to prepare yourself for college. The credits you earn can also be transferred and good grades will also benefit your application.</p>
<p>All in all, make sure you take the chance to explore and don’t quit once you find something you enjoy. By the end of next year, you’ll want your profile to be basically complete (officer positions, classes taken, whatnot). You’re still a sophomore, so don’t stress, just make sure you don’t slack off til the last 2months of school your senior year…unlike me >.>.</p>
<p>and just a helpful hint. Start your applications essays the summer after junior year, and try to get drafts for each school your applying to and edit them during your senior year. This is what i did, and it really helped me get a headstart and not be as stressed as my peers. While everyone else was busy writing their first draft a week b4 the due date, i was already done and just looking over my essay for grammar errors and whatnot.</p>
