Hours: 25 - 35 (Sometimes close to 40) hrs/week
Reason for Leaving: Worked only from Friday through Sunday (Every Saturday I worked there from 9 a.m. till past 10 p.m. with only an hour break between shifts) and was going to be gone for 10 of the next 11 weekends for competitions, SAT, SAT Subject Tests, ACT, and other events.</p>

<p>Analysis:</p>

<p>My SAT Scores aren’t amazing, with the exception of Math, but you must take into consideration that I had no sleep the night before the SAT because I had prom. But as shown, my ACT Score of a 34 should make up for it. Also my AP Scores aren’t as high as they should be because at my highschool the AP classes don’t focus on the test itself. Especially as seen by the AP Chemistry Exam: We focused too much on marathon problems (these are single problems that are cumulative of all chapters and take an extensive amount of time) that aren’t on the test, and didn’t help prepare for test. Our teachers instead wanted to prepare us more for college than the AP Test itself.</p>

<p>I also speak more than English. I have taught myself Japanese with only the aid of a foreign student from Japan over the Internet that I talk to regularly, and also books and computer programs. This is because I am Caucasian and their are on five people of Asian decent (None are Japanese) in our entire highschool out of 2000 people, and no course to learn Japanese. I have also taught myself Latin through books and computer programs, and am now learning German this summer as I continue to learn more of the other languages as well.</p>

<p>My courseload for last year had 4 AP Courses and 3 Pre-AP Courses (Just as challenging as AP Classes at my school). This with the addition of 30 hrs a week at my job, all on the weekends (so I didn’t have a break at all) and my ECs. Next year I plan on taking 8 AP Classes. All of which I plan on taking the AP Test for. I will also do the Japanese AP Exam, Latin AP Exam, European History Exam, and Art History Exam; all four of which I have learned, and still am learning, throughout the summer. I will also be competing in the Academic Decathalon my senior year and plan on actually trying in the University Interscholastic League Academic Competitions (as in the previous two years I have been forced to join the week before District with no study or preparation).</p>

<p>So what are my chances?</p>

<p>Should I also try applying to MIT or Caltech?
My 4.00 unweighted GPA, 5.00 weighted GPA, and 34 ACT seem good enough.</p>

<p>I’m going to be up front with you. I’ve had friends get into UCSD with a 3.75, but that was partly because they were also Cali residents. I’m more than confident that you will get into most, or probably all, those colleges listed. </p>

<p>Now that you mentioned Computer Science, apply for MIT, you have nothing to lose! Take a chance!</p>

<p>I don’t think you’re aiming high enough. Your GPA and ACT put you in range for all of the top CS schools. I’d recommend at least applying to Stanford, MIT, Caltech, Carnegie Mellon, and Princeton for Computer Science, in addition to UC Berkeley, Texas, and Illinois, where you’re already applying.</p>

If I don’t make above a 2200 on my second SAT in October, should I send only my ACT(34) to the colleges, or still send my SAT Scores to them as well.</p>

<p>I would personally not send in your SAT score from your first sitting and anything below a mid 2200 range on your 2nd. It could detract from your already stellar performance.</p>
