I am currently a Junior at Downingtown West High School in Downingtown Pennsylvania. My GPA in Freshman year was 2.71 I think and 2.13 for my sophomore year. I currently have all A’s for the first and second marking periods. I am also very nervous about my SAT in march. I barley know any of the math material and it’s hard to answer the question right on the reading and writing SAT. I have been enrolled in SAT Prep at my school for both math and verbal. After I have taken practice test online. I am predicted to get from a 790 to 850, which is a really bad score. But I am currently an Eagle Scout and hopefully that will increase my chances of getting into University of Colorado. So let’s say I get straight A’s this year and sign up for all honors courses for my senior year, and I take summer school to replace my lowest sophomore grades with A’s, and score a 1210 on the New SAT. So what would be my chances of getting into University of Colorado Boulder? And what should I do to get the SAT score I want? Because I am not very confident in myself for this SAT due to my practice tests. Any advice or suggestions?
You should definitely take an sat prep course. Everyone I know who followed the course and was good about doing some everyday increased their score. You might also take the act too cause some people do better on the act and some the sat.
Shoot for straight A’s for this year and first semester senior year, summer school sounds like a good idea too.
I would also write really good essays that explain how you’re improving your grades and that you started out rough when you apply.
They will probably want your mid-year grades when you apply so shoot for straight A’s senior year!
Just do what you can to prove to them that you will do well in college. If you can get your cumulative gpa up to a 3 or higher I’d say you have a chance!
But would my last two years still affect me in the long run? I’m also already taking SAT Prep. And since my SAT is March 11th, I don’t know how I’m gonna get a 1210 because I am really horrible at algebra and I did really bad on my PSAT, I scored 850 and 420 on math and 430 on read and writing. So what should I do to get the score I want? Also would being an Eagle Scout help get me in? If so, why do colleges like Eagle Scouts?
I think it still could affect you, however if you prove to them that you are continuously improving then it will look good on your part. I know someone who started out high school with a low 2 gpa, lots of suspensions, then he picked it up and got it together and they let him in.
You can always take the SAT again after more studying! You might even get a tutor to help you. I think Eagle Scout does look good cause it shows you’re very involved.
You could also take the ACT and see how you do. If you take the ACT multiple times they will combine all your best scores from each section which can help a lot with getting your score up.
If I were you, just work really hard but also have a back up plan in case you don’t get admitted.
