What are my chances of getting into UT Austin, out of state.

UT Austin is by far my number one school and I have met with the head of admissions before a tour that I took, and have emailed the admissions counselor for my area (New York). I am applying to major in computer science which is in The School of Natural Sciences. My ACT is a 25 and my SAT is a 1720. I recently took the ACT again and think it’s possible that I could have gotten a 30. My GPA is about a 3.65 weighted (I could have had a 3.8-4.0 if I went to my local public school but I know that UT doesn’t care about that). I know that these scores are very very low compared to lots of other people who have applied to UT. But I believe my essays are very strong as well as my resume. How likely is it that I am going to get in. And if I don’t get in, would going to St. Edwards and transferring after a year be a reasonable and possible option?

OOS, there is a very low chance for you unfortunately. Those SAT/ACT with your GPA aren’t up to par with out of state applicants(it’s much more difficult to get in OOS) or even in state applicants. UT won’t look at the school you went to as a point of reference, and if you were to transfer I’d go with ACC, rather than St.Edwards which is known for being pricey. CNS average ACT is a 31, you’re quite far away from that and with all the other odds stacked against you… I’d say it is a large reach. Sorry friend

Your odds of acceptance are low due to your scores and GPA. Out-of-state students need to be tippy-top, because only 10% of the UT students can be from out-of-state.

Your SAT and your ACT scores are too low to get in to the computer science major!
