What are my chances of getting into....

Boston University, Northeastern University, University of Michigan, American University, George Washington University, and University of Virginia?

I’m planning to apply into International Relations/Poly Sci.

Here are my stats:

Gender: Male (no clue if that matters, but I don’t think so, haha)

Ethnicity: Half Korean, Half Caucasian

Son of a war veteran, if that helps.

Current grade: Junior

School location: Moderately small suburban town in Mechanicsville, Virginia

GPA: 3.5 unweighted, should rise to 3.6 by first semester of senior year.
9th-11th grade I went from getting A’s B’s and a C or two to Mostly A’s and B’s with one C Sophomore year, and Junior year thus far, all A’s in majority IB and AP classes. The only unweighted core subject for me will be math, and this year only. I messed up a bit, in the beginning, but I’m hoping the noticeable improvement will help. I plan on taking all weighted classes next year, and hopefully, all A’s once again.

I was two levels ahead in terms of Math (took pre calc as a sophomore), and all years of High School so far have consisted of IB/Adv./AP classes in the core subjects. Honors isn’t offered at my school :(

Rank: Anywhere from upper 30’s- lower 50’s, in a class of 427 students. I need to check.
Anywhere from top 8-13% is my rough estimate.

Foreign Languages: Three years of Latin, three years of Spanish.

Current SAT: 1220 (M & V), 1940 (Combined + W)
Verbal 660, Math 560, Writing 720.
SAT II’s: U.S. History 680, World History 600

Signing up for June ACT as well as June SAT

AP tests: History (taking next week), Envir. Science (taking next week)

I.B. exams will be taken for History, English, and Film by the end of my senior year, as well as an AP Statistics exam, and a Dual Enrollment Anatomy credit (if they take it).

EC’s:
Wind Ensemble, Concert Band, Marching Band, Pep Band, All County Band, and All District Band, all four years of high school. Co-section leader of Baritone section during marching band, top chair euphonium in all county, and placed in the upper chairs of district band.
So, basically, in terms of band, I was an am INVOLVED.

Clubs: NHS (potential officer position, not sure yet), BETA (same), Young Democrats (Probably Vice President by next year)

Also, 150+ hours of community service through church workcamps and various fundraisers, and I’ve served as a council member of the Redeemer Catholic Church Youth Council for four years.

That’s a ton of info to read, so a super huge thanks to anyone who responds!

Your information (despite your 500+ extracurriculars that I don’t have) is right on par with mine, and we’re applying to some of the same schools.

What I’ve heard regarding my information is that schools on the same level of UVA are very tough to get into unless you’re in-state - of course, being out of state means that you need to be that much more spectacular than others in-state.
For you, though, being in-state should make it considerably easier to get in, although I’m not going to assure you that it’ll happen - but I’d say you have a very strong shot.

You should be into Boston University and Northeastern (keyword: should).

Michigan seems to be on the same level as UVA, so it’ll be harder to get in there because you’re out of state, but they are on the same general level admission-wise (UVA might be slightly harder to get into).

The other schools I’m not sure about.

Very good chances at BU, AU and Northeastern. Michigan will be tougher.

Thanks guys!

Boston University - match
Northeastern University - match
University of Michigan - reach
American University - match
George Washington University - weak match
University of Virginia - reach

GW is more difficult to get into than AU, so I’d agree with everything the above poster says except:

AU: low match
GW: high match/low reach (simply because their acceptance rates are quite low)

Bump…
