So…I got deferred EA, which I guess was understandable, to be honest I’d been working on the Siemens comp since July every spare moment of my time so everything I did during that time period (start of school until start of December) has been pretty poor, apparently including my college app. I spent as much time as i could on it, but I guess it wasn’t enough. Anyway, here are my stats if anyone knows how good my chances are, just holler

Your awards are great and your stats are pretty good too. I think you have reason to be confident; if not Caltech, I’m sure you’ll get into a great college.

i took the old SAT, but most colleges do only consider the first two, the writing portion is goign to be used with yoru academic performance at a school wtih some other factors to create statistics to determine exactly what the writing portion means for academic ability and since it’s new those statistics dont’ exist yet

Dude, that Siemens competition thing is so stupid. Like, anyone can win it. And you only got 4th, I mean no offense man, but that really isn’t that great.

Haha, yea guitarman, it really wasn’t that much work, I mean, I only put like 40000 hours into it (okay more like 600 hours) into in a few months. I just hope I don’t end up like the 3rd place individual…:-P

well i kno caltech rejected a lot EA too, so if ur deferred u still got a great shot (i wonder how many deferred students get accepted during RD on average?). I guess once u got the stats and ec’s, i think it’s all about attitude/passion. :]

if they accepted 130ish EA, doesnt that mean that they will only let about 100 kids in RD, assuming 30 kids turn them down? they typically only expect 200 kids / year

Yeah I’m sure plenty more than 30 people (including EA acceptees) turn Caltech down in favor of Harvard, MIT, etc. While others turn those schools in favor of Caltech.
