What are my chances? (UCSD to UCB)

Haha, how funny… I remember being on this website two years ago. Anyway, I am looking to transfer to UC Berkeley because I will be leaving United States after graduation to go to Korea, (and shamefully) I won’t be able to get a decent job unless I go to either UCLA or UC Berkeley. It’s not about the quality of the schools. It’s just that people who went to Seoul University (equivalent of Harvard in Korea) are having a tough time getting hired as well, and it would be in my best interest to be prepared for the worst.

Also, transferring would help me in the long run as well. I was an architecture major hopeful, but I didn’t realize that UCSD doesn’t have a school of architecture when I was applying. (yeah, I really didn’t know anything back in highschool) Also, I don’t want to study architecture as a practice; I want to analyze it, find trends, delight in the quirks, etc. Eventually, I want to go to grad school for history of architecture, and this major is not offered in UCSD. I mean, I can make one up on my own, but the relevant courses are offered only once or twice a year… and they are repeated.

Long story short (sorry, I was a bit frustrated) Here are my stats…

Current Major: Interdisciplinary computing in the Arts
Prospective Major: History of Art and Architecture or Mass Communication
GPA: 3.67
Applying: Cal
E.C. - Thurgood Marshall Television (Senior Producer/Editor)
- Second Place winnder in Thurgood Marshall Art Competition (fall)
- First Place winner in the same competition (winter)
- Intervarsity Christian Fellowship Media Communications Team member
- Intern at TOKYO POP in the Marketing/PR department
(Thurgood Marshall College is one of the colleges in UCSD)
Pre-reqs: Haha… o_o I don’t really understand what this is
Work: Tutor in essay writing and (ironically) Gen. Chem and Biology
Current Coursework: Intro to Advertisement (Fullerton College)
Fall Coursework: Intro to Western Music, Calculus 10C, Intro to ICAM, and Visual art studio

I saw that they require SAT scores too?

SAT I: 2110
SAT II: Korean - 800
Math IIC - 780
Biology E - 730
US History - 790
Spanish - 750
(I took a lot because I was insecure hahaha)
Full IB diploma
AP Scholar (… or something like that)
National Merit thing that didn’t give me any money.

It would be super nice if you guys can determine my chances… It would help me to see the situation more clearly =D

hello? I am also Korean and going for Cal/LA. You have a decent GPA and try to maintain that GPA. Also, try to finish pre-req classes and you should make a decision on major. architecture major is pretty hard to get in so you should try to apply different major. by the way, Cal does not require SAT scores.
you have a decent chance good luck!

ooh thank you =D

how do i finish pre-reqs if the classes don’t correspond?

(oh it’s not architecture, but architectural history - similar to art history)

oh… you should be fine then… seems like a non-impacted major…
to check the pre-req classes go to assist.org
Hopefully i will c u at Cal! lol…

if your school doesn’t have a same course it is okay not to take…

It might be a bit tough because usually students who transfer between campuses are given second priority below CCC students, but I think if you raise your GPA by the end of your sophomore year and submit strong essays, you have a good fighting chance.

hmm… priority to CC students… i guess that might hurt a bit…
