What are my chances? What should I add? [international transfer student]

I think that these are worth mentioning. The poker one seems cool and somewhat unusual to me. It also looks like a case of “doing what is right for you, and doing it well” which is what IMHO ECs should be.

Won’t that be your 4th year (I thought you were in your second year now)? Most US colleges require transfers to spend 2 years there to get a degree.

Hey that would be my 4 year but I am not hoping to have total full utilization on my courses.I really want to go to America becouse of its oportunities. In Brazil we do have good universisties such as mine but they are not so close in quality as USA.I would apply for a transfer in finance or business and if I make to these universities I will have great oportunities for a startup or even finance jobs with high salary.I think overall I will be able to do more impact in the society even more than in Brazil and finishing my fourth year

Ok, just so you understand you will have two full years of college in the US (and be paying for two full years.) Also look on each school’s website to see if they consider applicants who have above a certain number of college credits.

Most finance/business majors will have to return to their home country after undergrad. US is not immigration/student friendly right now, nor are some/many businesses. For example many of the domestic big banks won’t give internships/jobs right out of undergrad to international students.

As an admission expert do you have any advice besides searching for availabilities to transfer. What about my profile? What do you think I could add

There exists summer jobs

You can only work at an on campus summer job in the US. And your hours are limited to part-time.

Chagpt told me diferent

ChatGPT be wrong. Although to correct @Mwfan1921, you can work full-time on campus during the summer. Which doesn’t mean that there will be a position available for you with FT (or any) hours.

Are you sure?Chatgpt told me I could have CPT curricular practice hours and after graduation I can work as well for 1 year or 3 years.I am not sure if this is true

I suggest you do research on all of this beyond ChatGPT. And if you’re looking for an actionable item, you’ll need a strong English proficiency score in addition to top grades, ECs, essays, etc.

Yes

ChatGPT isn’t always correct. My very human experience, however, rarely leads to an incorrect answer.

OPT (Optional Practical Training) lets one work for a year in their field after graduation. There is a possibility to extend to 3 years in some fields, but not yours.

But, and this is a big but - indeed it’s huge, what is in place now may not be in place when you graduate

I asked this many times to many persons but none could help me with my Ecs or what I could add to them.I think I will have to ask to someone who works with this directly ,helping others getting admitted. Are they enough or should I add something?

I don’t know you to give specific advice. In its place I’ll offer this general advice. Adding activities solely for admissions purposes is usually folly (and futile;) you should have activities that interest rest/challenge and - ideally - are tied to future plans

Once you complete your studies, your student visa will expire, and you will very likely be required to return to your home country. At this point, I wouldn’t count on getting a finance job here. There are new proposed limits on OPT, and that very well could affect your plans.

If you want to come to college in the United States as a path to then working here…I would suggest you rethink this plan.

And I don’t care what ChatGPT says.

You are asking about the wrong thing. To get into a US university, the major thing that the schools will look at is your transcript. Because you’re out of high school, they won’t consider your scores. It’s all about grades and letters of recommendation- if the applicant university accepts them.

EC’s are nice to have, but adding more now, won’t swing the pendulum to acceptance.

It’s all about grades and internships over time. Because you’re targeting finance, there are thousands of students with similar backgrounds in the US, so it’s not unique enough for US immigration to give you extra OPT years. In other words, the US is not lacking for finance/business majors; if anything, it’s going in reverse. Employers are not going to pay the fees nor take the time to fill out the immigration paperwork when they have stacks of resumes from US citizens that they can employ.

Don’t believe what Chat is telling you. Or, you can choose to believe it, and then find out in real life, when it doesn’t materialize. Please don’t assume that you can immigrate once you arrive. The rules are strict. You should assume that you will return, after you receive a diploma, to your home country.

Its just that I am aiming for top universities as I have mentioned.I am new to this but I believe aside from the grades,LOR and internship,I should have good ecs to be more competitive I believe,I may be wrong.I want a 5% vacancy for me I need to be outstanding.I have 16 months to prepare my self.I will genuineley choose thing that resemate with me while trying to get into an university.Like working at finance or trying to make a business

I noticed I made a lot of grammar errors.Sorry I am not used to type in english and the phone typer is really bad

OK you’re aiming for top universities, because you probably need a recognized university when you return to your home country to be employed.

The US has over 4000 universities that are accredited and are good. International students don’t understand this. They appeared to think that we only have 10 to 20 universities that are good. How would all of our American citizens graduate just from a handful of universities?

ECs are an emphasized for new/freshman applicants because the universities want to see that the students have added to their academics and can multitask by stepping out of their comfort zones.

For transfer students, the direction is GRADES and internships. They want to see how you perform at the university level, while preparing yourself for a career. Letters of recommendation come from supervisors who see what you will use in your future jobs.

The US has finance majors who get into big banking and business, but may not all attend “top” universities. What the students are savvy enough to know is the target schools which have good business programs and those May not be a “top 10” school. Did you even look at Indiana’s Kelly School of business? It is a very tough program but well respected.

If you’re coming to the US, with intentions to immigrate, you need to take that off the table because that is not going to happen.

There are too many business majors and the US is not lacking for business majors.

The OPT program was set up to address areas in which the US lacked talent- like STEM. Right now, everything is up in the air, including students with computer skills and STEM-related talents who not being hired.
